Have any of you fished Venice for bass in the last few years? I really want to make a trip down there, possibly in Sept. I fished out of Venice once a couple years ago, but we went offshore for snapper. I considered going with a guide but not surprisingly all of the inshore guides are focusing on reds/trout/flounder. Plus the day rates seem to reflect that and are a little higher than what I've seen for just bass elsewhere.

I realize the dangers associated with running the river, especially in the dark or fog. It will definitely be daylight travel.I will definitely have to plan my days carefully to catch low tide at a good time. How critical is it to run down and across the river to the refuge and wma areas? I know some of those areas are popular, but can good fishing be had closer to the marinas?

I have an 18' Xpress. It's capable, but obviously not the biggest boat out there. As of now, it is just my buddy and I in my boat. If we get another boat going, I may be more inclined to run the river, but with just one I would like to err on the side of caution.

Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. Thanks.
