The good news, I finally had a top water attack on a Zara Spook at 0530....but it was the first cast! Yeah it happened and in the dark I actually thought it was a striper. Peeling line and circling the boat, using it's shoulders to dig deep. Not a striper and the weight will always be a mystery because of a leaking battery in my scales. It was a really big spotted bass, 19" and as thick as a football.

Now about the curse. 6 hours and 12 rods on the deck later I surrendered. I was in bait balls larger than the Nitro all day but nothing I had in 3 bait lockers worked!

Thanks for the report and glad you caught something. That had to be a let down to be fishing around and in all them bait balls and not get any fish to bite. :'(

I really didn't realize how large it was until I took it out of the livewell. Hard judging in the dark. It could have been worse,  could have been another catfish. You just can't clean that slime off whats left of your line and lure. You just cannot beat a Zara Spook. If i had another shad color around 2" I might have caught another. Thats what they were feeding on. Can't believe I'm whining after catching that tank!
