Folks as the "dog days are winding down, it can be a tough time to get a bite. A GYCB Hula Grub on a jig head this time of year is a deadly bait. The two best places I've found for them are on long slow taper points and marinas. I use 3/8 head on points and 3/4 in deep water marinas. The 704 excels with this bait. Sensitivity is great and plenty of backbone to set the hook on the jig head. Colors 157, 297 and 208 are the colors I use. I keep the bait on the bottom but always keep it crawling. I use 14lb fluro. If you have a lot of big fish you may want to move up to a 735 and 17lb line. Also crawling on boat ramps in the winter with this is wicked.

Sshhhhhhh! I have won a lot of money on it. I have also found on a Charlie Brewer slider jig it can slid down bluff walls and swam over grass.
Oh and it is an all year bait.
I throw it on a DC744c with an Daiwa SV103 with 14lb flouro.
Green, brown, and spots love it.

An overlooked bait this time of year is a tied jig or a Hula grub. Many guys think they need to go to big worms in hot weather. Jigs are one of the best baits not only this time of year but all year long!! One of the things I miss in Texas is my Clear Lake trips fishing jigs in August. Really good fishing!!
