The last time that I was out on the St. John's River in Brevard was a little over a month ago and the water level was good. What a difference a month makes! On the water at sunrise and 5 minutes later I ran aground from the low water. I slowly idled out towards the lake and quickly figured out that I only had one choice, fish the area of the river that I was in because of the low water. I slowly fished my way toward a bridge and noticed all kinds of activity at the bridge. I started slinging a lipless crankbait around the bridge pilings and did pretty decent on some nice quality fish in the 3 lb. range. They were hanging tight to the bridge pilings and I broke a few off because the piling corners were so sharp. Dang it! I also caught a couple on a Keitech swimbait on a Bass Assassin jighead. Picked up my wife at the dock for lunch on the water. Fun day!

Check out the pic of the Red Eye Shad crankbait. The treble hook dug into the body of the bait and split it. I've never had that happen before!

Thanks for the report Flats, 3 lbrs are very fun to catch. I have never seen a treble hook do that before.

Thanks for the report flats! Interesting pic of the hook in the lure. If I didn't know any better I'd have guessed the hook just snapped off.

That is a crazy deal with the lure. Not sure I've ever seen that before.

Edited:

After thinking on it for a bit, I seem to remember I had a Red Eye Shad lure that did the same thing! The bottom of the lure cracked after just a few times of using it. I don't remember the hook getting stuck in it, but I do remember it broke. It was then I decided to not buy any more.
