I ventured an hour and a half north to fish Kenansville. I have only fished there a couple times and it is different!

For the most part it's 1.5 to 2.5 feet of water, choked with hydrilla, with some open areas and sand bottom. There are some mats of pennywort and another cover on the edges and spots in the middle. Most of the boats I saw where fishing in the more open areas but I couldn't get a bite there in the first hour or two. So I headed to the mats, my happy place.

I didn't get a lot of bites, I think I had six all day. My first bite was a decent fish, I can say that because I got it out of the mat but not to the boat. My second was the one in the picture. 6lbs, and once she was out of the mat she kept fighting while I scrambled for the net.  After that I got three smaller fish and lost another.

I had to use 2 oz to get through the mat and even then I didn't have a lot of success. I used Gambler why not to get my bites.

Water temp was between 69 + 71 all day.
After fishing the canals in the everglades I was glad to get back to open water. No offense Lou, Rick and friends, it's just not a kind of fishing I have enough experience with... or any good at it!

Wow! Great fish! Great catchin'! You are going to be one to watch at Tenoroc!

I am wondering if there will be any mats at Tenoroc???

Are you going to be lost without them? lol
Words are the exercise for the brain. Words are life expressed... without words we die a slow meaningless death. Silence to the grave is no way to go! So live! Use words! Power of the pen is sharper than any sword! Make it so! Mom said don't surround yourself with idiots! Fly higher than the Eagles... and don't run with the turkeys! Deus Vult!

I doubt that FFF.The wily vets, Barry and Walt, will school us up there for sure.  Though fishing lay downs and brush is an Ontario thing too, so won't be foreign for me.
I hope its half as good as I think it might be.

Nice one!

Planning to be on Okeechobee, South Bay, on Saturday. Last trip down to bring my ride home with my team tournament partner. Planning to do Everglades Bassmasters open out of Clewiston if I don't  break anything first. All week to practice if our wives give us the chance. Water looks 4 or so inches lower than when we fished.

What is the worst thing about being a bank fisher? Always having to watch out for dog poop LOL

Heck Yeah, that will work any day of the week.

Congrats.

Nice fish Ranger. I love that place. The only problem is it's an hour and a half for me too and I live "around the corner"!
