looking for new spinning rod for senko, ned rig. plastics. I fish small lakes with heavy shore weed growth. Do I need what power and length and or maybe rod you use yourself for weed growth. thanks ~

It seems you have a dilemma on your hands. a rod that can cast a ned rig and still handle heavy weeds does not exist IMO.

For heavy weeds I would use a heavy power with a fast action. And a ned rig rod would be a medium power med/fast action.

For the soft plastics I would use a Dobyns 734c to a 736c, with a 735c being optimal. Only reason I suggest the 734c is if you are throwing plastic weightless.

The ned rig rod would be a Dobyns 702sf or 703sf depending on what weights you are using.

Dobyns 702SF for ned and 703SF for senkos.  Can use the 703 for both but Gary D recommends the 702 for ned.

I have both in the Fury series

I think the question is what kind of weeds and how thick is it? If you need to get fish through heavy weeds like zippy said thats a dilemma.

My thoughts...
A ned rig with a senko won't be that bad cause a senko will cast well. I think your best bet is a 734c. It should be able to cast a ned with senko ok. It's also going to depend on your reel too. If you've got a reel that handles light weight lures well then you should be ok with this configuration. Anything stiffer will make it hard to cast that little lure.
If you put anything other than a senko you might be in trouble.

I have a Sierra 734 and a Champion 734. I cast 4" senko weightless pretty far and put any weight on them 1/16 or 1/32 and they fly.

Now the other issue you might have is are you going to use braid or a clear line? Remember ned hooks are generally thin wire. You'll be bending some hooks if you need to get the fish through heavy weeds and using braid. It will all depend on how much force you need to use to get them to the bank.

There are just certain techniques that don't work in certain lakes and we just have to kind of work around that and use other techniques to catch our fish.

If I can't throw a ned rig I'd go with a 734/735 put a 1/16 bullet weight pegged on a superline hook  and just trig a 4 inch senko on braid. Heck BPS now even has a 3 inch Stick O. It's not a ned rig but it'll catch fish regardless.

Good luck and if you get a chance take a pic of the weeds you're talking about so we have a better visual of what you're dealing with.
