Tomorrow is the annual IBF&G Big Fish Derby, I can't fish it. :'( :'( I look forward to this every year, the largemouth division is the one I fish, I've won it more than anyone else, the money might pay my yearly dues and possibly the launch key fee, it's the bragging rights that are important. Today I should be sitting in my boat checking all my gear, retying my all my outfits, checking hooks, cleaning out the boat, spit polishing the electronics all that stuff. I'm always the first on the water, 4:00 AM maybe a bit earlier, the rules don't state a starting time, most don't get there until 8:00 or later, I've usually get the winner in the boat then. I launch at the club but most of the guys fishing for bass drive to Sodus Bay, 45 minutes then drive back, another 45 minutes plus the gas and what not, they think there's bigger fish there, silly nincompoops, if there were I wouldn't beat them. I spend the week before right up to Thursday scouting, searching running patterns, while I won it once with a fish I caught at noon most of the time it's the early bite that does it.
Now I haven't won it every time, in fact, I've lost more than I've won, 2nd and 3rd are losing, I don't brag about losing, I work harder, it's just something I like doing.
There's maybe 6 or 7 really good sticks in the club, the rest are worm dunkers that show up about 9, run to a spot they caught a 2 lber 8 years ago, drop anchor and proceed to drown worms and minnows and some times soft shell crabs while they're sucking suds. I've managed to put a hurting on the guys in their big bass boats, fancy shirts and high priced gear with my tin, BPS rod/reel outfits and a handful of baits. Normal for this is mid depth cranks, Norman Middle Ns, POP'R or tubes, jigs, and worms. I have 2 areas that dropshot is the go to, walls with 3 feet of water at the base and docks coming off them, the walls are baitfish highways but it's usually a later bite.
I had 1 guy tell me he's glad I'm not in it, this is the second year in a row, he said there are a couple of others, Gloryoski Batman, I want to nail his butt next year!!! lo lo lo
So as you can see, there is no joy in Mudville, the mighty Casey won't be at bat!!! :'( :'( :'(

Sorry to hear but it just makes you more hungry for the next time!  Be careful telling too many secrets.  There are some good internet searchers out there that can figure out honey holes.  I did it once to a guy on Kentucky Lake.  Took a few days, but I finally figure it out.
There is nothing like sharing any moment outdoors with someone special!

Rodney, I had 5 years straight of that. Think how good you'll feel and how you're going to smoke them when you heal.

You'll get them next year. Get healed up and it's all yours. Sounds like no matter the outcome you've already won this year :-*

I'll be the first one signing up, right after I tell them I won't be able to fish it, might as well get some head games into the mix!!! ;D ;D
