Good Morning UB!!!  Hope everyone had a great weekend.  This past Saturday, I fished the ABA tournament at Lake Blackshear out of Veterans State Park.  Weather forecast for the day was T-storms starting about 11am on through the day.........but.........never stormed just some light rain sporadically throughout the day.  Water temps were 67-69 degrees in most locations I fished.  Friday night before the tournament, I made a decision to start in a location I have never fished before and man was is a great decision.

I found a big creek on the south side of the lake called Collins Branch.  It has a nice point on the west side of the creek coming in from the main lake and a subtle point on the east side.  On the points there were a few lily pads emerging from the water along with some other weedy type vegetation.  When I pulled up on the spot, I could see fish were feeding on shad.  I elected to go with my Black/Yellow Spro Frog..........GAME ON!!! :traffic: :traffic: :traffic:

I fished from the west point back into the creek and had my limit by 0800 and culled up twice while in the creek.  Those bass were absolutely crushing that frog to the point that I was having to use needle nose pliers to get the frog from the backs of their mouths.  After I fished back out of the creek and the bite had slowed, I went and fished some other spots.  I ended up culling once more on the same type of vegetation.

You must have won the tournament right?  Nope.  I only had 9.78 pounds in my bag and the winner had 21 pounds however it WAS A WIN FOR ME.  As ya'll know, I am just getting back into competitive bass fishing after a few years off and my confidence was low until Saturday.  That 9.78 bag of five fish had me higher than the Eifel Tower folks.  It was absolutely the fuel I needed when my "gas tanks" were low!!!  I fished with confidence the rest of the day as well as learned a few more lessons about the lake.

Hope yall have a great week!!!  Getting ready to fish Santa Fe Lake ABA tournament this coming weekend, so Ill have a report for ya'll on Monday or so.

FISH ON!!!
