We're BACK!!!!!!  What a long winter!  Between the 2018 Bass Master Classic on as I type this, Anglers shopping online with there local/Internet Tackle shops, and just jonesing to catch there 1st Bass of the 2018 season, SJHT anglers came strong on a day typically reserved for those seeking sunny and warm air temps.

I'm not gonna even sugar coat this one.     Can you say BRUTAL!!!!!!  Anglers barely got even a nibble.  The chilly air temps and brisk wind caused anglers to seek shelter to reserve trolling motor battery reserves. By 1pm....anglers were coming in 1 by 1.  I should know as I was one of them.  LOL

Union Lake will definitely be changed from being our opener in 2019.

Sorry to wine but it is what it is.

Union Lake AM Launch.

Alright....now that I've gotten my brief monologue done, lets get down to the results.

Please give a big shout out to Dan "It Was a Grind" Fitzpatrick for taking 1st place, 2nd Place, and Lunker with 2 Bass weighing 5.23lbs.  Yeah.... he won everything!  Dan's Lunker went a Nice 3.82lbs

Carlos *I got my new SJHT wardrobe* J. was the Misc. Winner with a 2.51lb Pickeral.
What a way to start the 2018 Season!!!!

UNION LAKE TALE OF THE TAPE:

1st Place, 2nd Place, & Lunker 2 Bass Limit:

Miscelleneous Winner:

Carlos with his 2.51lb winning Pickeral.

Summary:  Ummm.... As Skeet Reese said, we SUCK!  With air and water temps hovering around 40.5 Degrees, the Bass were definitely still hunkered down deep.  Any views on the depth finder revealed fish suspended in the 5.5'~8.0' water range.  On occasion, I spotted fish down to 12" in certain holes but the majority were a bit higher.  The initial bright sunshine did provide some degree of warmth but the wind took its toll on us anglers and batteries.  Whether one traveled North or South towards the dam, anglers reported zilch hook ups.  I'm not normally pessimistic about opening day, but the last 3 years here has been tough for most.  Will definitely look at switching things up Next year.

All in all 1 out of 14 anglers caught at least 1 Bass.  There were a total of 2 Bass caught giving way to a total of 5.23lbs.  There were a NO Limits caught.. The avg. per lb bass was 2.62lbsMiscellaneous winner was a 2.51lb Pickeral

The Tape of the Tape is somewhat a reflection of how our opening days at Union Lake has been over the last 3 years.   Tough!  Winter still in effect! and no rhyme nor reason as to why catch productiion rates are a little down.  A big congrats to Dan and Carlos for bringing a weighable fish to the scales.

Next up is RAINBOW LAKE

Tightlines,
