Swimbait Hooks with Sliding Weights

The recent post in the tips section got me to thinking about those swimbait hooks that have sliding weights.  I am curious about what others think about this and does it make sense.  The only one I am aware of is the Mustad Power lock hooks.

Bud I'm not familiar with them? I'm gonna have to do some research and see what the word is. It's coming into season for me and this might be an edge

Man I have a bunch of hooks that do that. They never advertised it as such.

I thought it was just part of the fact it was lead wrapped around a metal wire. I just use my pliers and slightly crimp the weight where I want it to stay. If you want to move it do just like the guy in the video twist and wiggle it to where you want maybe apply another slight crimp if it gets to loose to hold itself.

But yeah making a Keitech nose down like its eating off the bottom   

Some of the more expensive hooks like the Trokar weighted hooks and the Owner Beast weighted ones I have not had move on me though.

Bud, I modified a mold so I could make them a bunch of years ago. Mine looked exactly like that Mustad. Wasn't aware that Mustad had a hook like that until now, but it's not a surprise.

IMO, it's not a bad idea, but the issue I had with them was after you slide the lead a few times, it wants to move on it's own as there's no way to keep it from sliding unless you add something else to limit it moving. Those black nickel hooks are slick.

I much prefer a stationary weight now on a swimbait hook, and just make them in different weights.

Bud, I've used that exact same hook.....actually, it's the only hook I use when I want to throw a Fluke on a weighted hook.

The hooks are Sticky Sharp....as are most Mustads......and STRONG!
I've hooked many a Pike on them while fishing for Bass......NEVER YET HAD ONE BEND!

Love the fact that I can make my Fluke nose dive or Horizontal fall.
I have them in every size and weight......multiples........Wally World blew them out a few years back.......found them again, cheap at WW THIS year.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!!!!!

I like the concept. Being able to slide the weight back and get a horizontal fall is my favorite type. The bait falls and shimmies side to side. There are times when a vertical nose down fall is better, the weight forward would also cause a spiral effect.

Going to try these this winter.

BPS sells hook weights, they look similar to a clam shell weight just crimp them on where you want them. They work pretty well.
