At least your humidity isn't 80 or 90%  ~sweat

John I hear you . You need to catch a world record fish then you can fib on what you use to catch it on and what you were using and them guys will pay you lots of $$$ and you can sell your flower shop and retire.  lo lo

Lip I got one mor kid to put through college and see her on her way. After that I am gone fishin for good.  I'm gonna start an Eco guide fishing charter service up north which will be fishing based but will help city folk understand the environment and how it's gonna have to be preserved. I need a few more courses for my captains license and I will invest in a new pontoon boat. My sights are set on that as a retirement job since I will only have to get out with people May to October and I will be fishing. The rest of the time will be mine.

Good evening to everyone,

Mostly clear skies with the temps in the low 80's here in Central Texas today  ~sun  Another day at work we're starting to get the sporting events started now.  The girls Volleyball scheduled started tonight.  Tuesday the 7th Grade boys have their first home football game.  Got a Cross Country meet a couple days after the boys football game.  Yep school is back in full swing  ~shade

Rodney; Glad to hear you made it out on the water.  Lest you didn't get skunked.  I always keep Extra Rods rigged up for bass fishing.  Carl and I were out once and he put the hurt to me with a Shaky Head rig.  I didn't have one with me but after getting back home I put one together right quick.   You'll get'm next time buddy.

Top; I agree with Rodney you ask a little more for the motor and nut jobs will leave you alone.  Good luck with the sale.

Shawn; Buddy you got that Legend in Operational Service yet?

Lip; Tks for well wish for the wife.  She is starting to feel somewhat better.  One good thing about this situation she can't yell at me  ~shade

TW; Never heard that expression before about waving a chicken over the gravely  ???  I got to get out Saturday morning and get our place mowed and trimmed back up.  With all this rain we've had our yard looks like a hay field.

To everyone have a very pleasant and safe day tomorrow.

Top, well wishes for selling the motor this weekend!!!

Rodney, I got in a little fishing on the way to pick up the kids the day before yesterday afternoon. It was raining sideways, so I pulled my car up on the leeward side of a bridge on a rarely traveled back road and was casting from my window.
It's a cryin shame I suck so bad at a sport I love so much. Of course I didn't catch a thing.

John, I'll be putting kids through college for the next 15-20 years or so, assuming the youngest wants to go. He'd wanted to follow in my footsteps almost since he could walk but I've about convinced him I would have done a lot of things differently if I knew then what I know now. Now he's considering following the oldest boy and going to trade school. He's only 12 though, so that's open to many changes before the time comes.

Morning SHC and that must of been a sight to drive by you fishing out the window of your car.  ~bb To bad you didn't catch anything.

Good luck out there Rodney and be safe!!!
Jerry, happy birthday buddy !!!!
Steel, trades are a great option nowadays especially if you speak English!!! My son is apprenticing to be a welder and he never liked school but he sure loves what he is doing.  The money will be good going forward for him as well if he sticks to it.
Donald, enjoy your last weekend before you are ankle deep in rug rats.
Summer is over for me and back to work big time as the store will get busier with each passing day now. I have a few trips planned but most of my fishing is over for now.

John try and not work yourself too hard. Welding is a good trade to get into you can go anywhere and find work if your good at it.

I was a stick welder for many years,I was good at it,but I never got certification. Get a proper certification in several types of welding and you can really get the bucks. Gas pipeline welders make good money, but you have to have a truck set up for welding, mobile welders etc...

Mowed lawn today, glad I don't have to do that everyday. At least now I can practice casting, and find my truck. ;)
Enjoy yourself now,for you'll be a long time dead.

Thanks for you advice TW I will send it on to him. He's working mainly on SS tig right now and he seems to be catching onto it pretty good. The government supervises the training here so he will get exposure to a lot of different types of welding I'm sure.

Next time let me know and I can come help  ;D or you can borrow my riding mower.

I actually have a reel mower! IF I can ever keep the grass short enough, that's what I use. Takes forever to mow a bit over an acre with a 16" reel mower, but I have so many obstructions and contours in the yard that a riding mower makes it look like one of these drunk teenage rednecks did some donuts in it.

Funny y'all mention welding, it's what the oldest is in school for now. I worked on pipelines where welders were pretty much writing their own paychecks. Lowest paid one I knew was knocking down 3K weekly. Highest paid welder I knew was taking home close to 10.
And I thought I was doing great, getting a whopping $1,200-$1,500 weekly for planting grass and building fences! I did prep and restoration.

Here's a homemade CT conversion bar in the making, HOPEFULLY. Test fitted on my Frankenreel. It's a fatty, but I kinda like the way it looks so far.

Lipripper

SHC when I was younger I use to mow my grass with one of them reel mowers. That's what I started mowing with when I was old enough to mow. We didn't have power mowers back then.

I mow my lawn with a 1967 Gravely model L ,sometimes it takes a voodoo rite to get it started. Hence the need for a chicken. ;)

Those old reel mowers remind me of what my grandmother used. My dad used to have a machine to sharpen them,it was quite a chore to get one sharpened.

Steelhorse, the new bar looks good so far. :)

I'm not sure how the older ones were built, it's been years since I've seen one complete, but the newer ones have some fine adjustment screws to get the right amount of contact between the blades and the cutting bar throughout the entire length of the blade. Mine, thankfully, hasn't needed extensive sharpening yet. I've been able to knock off a couple of burrs here and there with a diamond rod.
If the grass gets too tall, one of the frame bars just pushes it over, preventing the blades from catching it and pulling it onto the cutting bar. Major design flaw there. Notice the older ones like in lip's pic don't have that.
This is the one I have, except this one is a newer model and I believe it's wider. Notice the two frame bars in the front.

The homemade bar flopped before getting off the ground. Between the frame, brake plate, and knobs on the bottom of the drive shaft, I can't attach it without soldering, and I don't believe I'm going to do that. I'll just have to order one I reckon. Oh well! Having the level wind on there isn't hurting me none, I'm not surf fishing.

I did notice when I took it apart that apparently one of the brake blocks had broken. That's a bit alarming to me. I know when it broke too. I was out a few days ago and had been fishing for several hours already, when I suddenly heard a chatter during a cast. I reeled in my hook and bobber, no chatter. Made a few shorter, lighter casts, and no more chatter. I figured a spring was getting worn so I just put it away for the day.
