Hey Guys -

Have two curado 70XG. I love the short ones but I am strongly thinking about replacing the handle to 96mm. I am seeing that TackleTrap (Great Site) has some available.

What model I should be aiming for ?

Shimano Metanium XG 96mm Handle Assembly - RH  (with Power Grip)

Shimano Metanium MGL 96mm XG Handle Assembly RIGHT
(Looks like same as Curado 70's grip that I would like to avoid)

Second option is to leave it alone and get some bearings from ebay and get this from tackletrap (Shimano Power Grip Knob Set RH (BNT4220))

The Metanium XG handle is from the Met 2013. Both of these handles are almost 100% the same except for the knob caps. The MGL has the ugly silver caps and the XG has the blacked out ones. Both have the exact same knobs on them too. I have a bunch of the 2013 Met 96mm handles on my reels. Both will comes with 4 bearings in the knobs and shimmed perfectly. You will need to use your nut, nut cover and screw from your Curado 70 handle.

Here are a couple pictures with the 96mm handle installed.

DID I say that reel/handle looks S E X Y ?  ~c~

Would that be it ?  Is the grip knob is the same as curado or is it power grip ?
Would I need to get the bearings ?

Last one - Would this fit in to the Core 50MG7 as well ?

Thanks

It does make thet reel pop!

Yes sir. Your link is the exact handle in the picture. The grips aren't the power grips that Shimano used to make. They are close but a tiny bit narrower. They are still much bigger than the Curado 70 knobs.

No sir. You won't need anything to swap out for your 70. The handle they sell has the knobs and 4 bearings already installed. Just keep your nut, nut cover and screw from your 70 and swap them out. The knobs are shimmed too so zero play and they free spin great.

Yes sir. It will fit a Core 50 but you will need a shim to clear the drag star. Just drop 1-2 shims between the drag star and the handle and you're set. Here is a link:

Personally, I would get this handle for the Core. Might make it look cooler:

If you do go the black handle, you will need to buy this nut cover to work:
http://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=898_792_797&products_id=8238

Use your Core 50 nut and screw.

Also, at check out, use this code and you'll get 10% off your order TT10

Thanks man -

Looks like they got everything covered but the shim,

I'm question myself if I should wait until its in stock or just order all and go to lowes to find something like that :)

First of all, much appreciate for all of your help   ;D
This is why I have been lurking on this forum for a long time.
So much knowledge and helpful anglers.

I will surely PM you since I was in my "Man Cave" in the storage to see if I have one or two lying around.

No luck but the order from tackletrap has been placed  ~c~

Just tried this on the Core 50MG7 with the Black Handle - Looks sweet but that Nut Cover doesnt fit..It seems that it prefers the Curado 70's Nut Cover. I am thinking of calling Shimano to order one which only cost 99 cents but 6 buck shipping (WTF)

Or I might just order one from ALIExpress which should take care of the issue - What do you guys think ?
