I see and have read about guys who add a buoy to their anchor. What is the reason for doin this? Thank you

Pacific NW Ron

The only time I've ever done it is salmon fishing on the river.  Sometimes when the fish are in and holding in the deeper slow moving holes boats anchor at the upriver end of the hole and do what we call hog lining.  I've seen as many as 15 boats side by side across the river.  You anchor and let you bait drift back into the hole.  When you hook a fish you throw your anchor buoy overboard and chase the fish down river to get out of the hole.  If you don't you end up with a big tangled mess of lines and pissed off anglers.  After you land, or loose the fish, your spot in line is reserved by your anchor buoy, you tie back up to you anchor and slide right back in line.  This can get exciting if all of a sudden the bite turns on and you get several fish on all at once and several boats cut loose.

Enjoying retirement in the great Pacific Northwest.  I've turned into a fair weather angler.  Why do it today when I can do it tomorrow?

So if you have to disconnect to chase down a fish. Usually salt water style.

Thanks guys. I thought I read something about it helping to reel in the anchor or something. I won't mess with it then.

I've always put one on when my anchor line runs out away from the boat. Just so if another boat comes close they can see it and not hit it.
