I've been pouring, painting & tying some bucktail jigs on various styles of jig heads. Most will likely be used for Striped Bass in the lake (Marion), but I expect I'll pick up a few LM bass on a few as well.  :)

These range in weight from 1/8 oz to 2 oz for casting & trolling.

Also tied a couple of these for Redfish on the coast. 1/2, 3/8 & 1/4 oz molded on a 3/0 Mustad Ultra Point hook. They're tied with the hair from the back side of a dyed olive bucktail. Not sure how they'll work, but looking forward to testing them out!  ~gf

As always they look great. I used to catch lots of smallish in deep water on bucktails when the time was right. That's one style of lure I miss fishing.

I wish I could find some bucktails like the lower picture. I used them a lot in rivers and highland reservoirs for smallies. Now I can't find any around.

Those look good Jim!! I haven't tied any of the larger weight jigs mine are the smaller 1/8 and 1/4 ounce baits, brown, green and black along with just a few white.
Zippyduck, just google "Hairjigs" their are a bunch of folks out there that tie them and the prices aren't too bad. Heck, pm Jim. see if you 2 can reach an accommodation.

Thanks Rodney! I'm pouring the heads in various sizes. As I said above, some of the jigs will be for the Striped bass in the lake, and trolling, while others will be for casting. I have some other things to pour too, like some jigging spoons. I've also got some ideas in my heads about some things I want to try, just haven't gotten to it yet.  :-*

Zippy & I have already conversed. I'm happy to help out a fellow UB member!  ;D

Thanks for the comments!  :)

Fred, I have arthritis in most of my joints, but have been doing this tying for so very long I've gotten used to the discomfort. If I ever stop, that's when it would be hard to do!  :'(

It's the use of the arthritic joints that keep them going. I have the same problem and the use keeps them useful longer. Once you stop using them they'll start to lock up, painful at times to keep going, yes but it's what we have to do.

Rodney, I thought that I had replied, but guess not. Hey, go for it! Copy them if you like, I'm glad you like them enough to want to.

You know, there are a lot of jig head styles & designs being marketed now, but it's hard to beat the Arky or Sparky styles for general use, whether tying fur or feather on them, or adding rubber or silicone skirts.  :)
