Well to AVOID getting hammered on this ISN'T a 'Ned Rig'.......lets refer to it as 'Midwest Finesse Fishing'.........WITHOUT THE 'FINESSE'.  ;) ;D

Most have heard about Tommy Biffle of Wagoner, Oklahoma, employ his much heralded bottom-bugging tactics with a big soft-plastic creature bait affixed to a big swinging-head jig.

Well Ned himself wrote this article for In-Fisherman.

So to me, WHY couldn't an angler use BOTH, bottom-bugging and Midwest Finesse presentation
interchangeably?

Now you might need/want to make some slight Tweaks......than again......maybe not? :)

Especially if you have the 'Power Fishing'  mind set and you HATE 'wacky rig' presentations BECAUSE THEY ARE SO SLOW THEY DRIVE YOU CRAZY.

While you are out 'Power Fishing' and reeling back your bait........SIMPLY STOP THE RETRIEVE ever so often and just finesse jiggle it in place or with the 'finesse hop' every now and again on the retrieve.
In reality, Ned has 6 DIFFERENT retrieve presentations that we covered in another thread.

I've used the
Z-Man's Palmetto BugZ and the Z Man CrawZ 4"(which is actually 3.5" NOT 4" as advertised)  as well as the Zmann Frogs with a Mega Strike 3/16th and 1/8th oz. e'Shaky Head jig....not the Boar HogZ.......YET.  lo

Bonus link.....to see what the Bass are seeing......from a Midwest Finesser.

DISCLAIMER:
I HAVE NO ASSOCIATION WITH ZMANN WHAT-SO-EVER.....AND I'M NOT PROMOTING THEIR PRODUCTS.....in fact,I really DON'T care what plastics you use!!!!!!!

All this stuff is Greek to me but I'm going to try and fish it some this year. Who knows the dinks I could be missing out on  ~roflmao

J/K man an elephant will eat a peanut.

When I tournament fish I use a lot of loud, flashy, "Hey I'm here and easy to catch" kind of baits. I want 5 seven pounders to weigh in. However, getting a quick limit with a presentation that has the potential of bigger fish as well is a smart idea :-*

Mike, it's kind of funny, when I was doing the OP, I was thinking of you.  ;D

You had mentioned awhile back how 'wacky rigging' DROVE YOU CRAZY because you liked to power fish and the slow tedious worm presentation DROVE YOU NUTS!  lo

Biffles bottom-bugging technique is a power fishing technique with constant cast and retrieving the Biffle Bug, banging the bottom and rocks all the way back to the boat.

That's why I figured....why not stop at times on the retrieve AND 'finesse' the rig.
Sure, it's not a 'TRUE' Ned Rig, almost more of a Shaky Head deal.........but WHO CARES.

Obviously Ned himself and the Midwest Finesse crowd feel Biffle's idea was worth watching him do for 5 hours........and they are now having Zmann develop a bait/plastic just for 'bugging the bottom'.

As I mentioned, I've used larger plastics and caught bigger bass.
Granted, the quantity of bites goes down BUT the quality/size definitely went UP.

Not all Ned Rigging is about casting out the bait and letting it sit......some of Ned's 6 presentations like the 'cast and retrieve', the baits always moving.

Heck, Zmann even came out this year with the 'Big TRD' which is 4" instead of 3".
On the second video from a die hard Midwest Finesser, he even shows how the FULL 5" worm floats instead of cutting it in half.

Have fun and here's to a great season!  ~beer~
