Spinnerbait sizes

I have two large boxes of spinnerbaits. I have 1/2 ounce written on top of one and 3/8 written on top of the other. This works great if I'm not in a hurry. Once on the water and trying to dial in a spinnerbait bite, I am changing baits often and they end up in a pile in the bottom of the boat.

When it comes time to clean up, I try to match head sizes or blade sizes to guess the weight of the spinnerbait. Mix in a quarter ounce or three quarter and I get really confused.

I started writing the weight on the blade of the spinnerbait, with a fine tip sharpie, as soon as I open the package. This makes organization very easy. I only write on the underside of the small blade and it has zero effect on the flash IMO.

1/4 I rarely rarely use and they are left blank
3/8 I write a small 8
1/2 I write a small 2
3/4 I write a small 4

Mike that is an excellent idea. I don't own many spinnerbaits. Maybe 10 max but it is a nice way to keep track.
The nice thing is the fish can't read numbers.
I do the depth on my cranks and I don't think the fish care lol.

10 max?  :o  I thought I was doing good when I cut my collection down to just a little over 100 (and that doesn't include my 60 or so inlines).

Lol I don't throw them often. The majority of my fishing is with soft plastics.

I hear ya. During my tourney fishing days I got into the habit of buying things in a minimum of a half dozen at a time, a tendency I still find hard to fight.

I know lots of people say the days of the spinnerbait are done but I still fish them fairly often so it's not so bad for me having this many.

All my spinnerbaits are in 1 box and this will help a lot.

easier idea is to use a SpinJig.  then you do not need the big box of spinner baits, and you can just change the head and skirt weight on the same frame and change blades.

A good idea, Mike. When I was on a definite spinner bait bite, I would put a small bucket on the floor of my boat and hang my spinner  baits on the edge of the bucket. This kept the floor of the boat clear and made it easy to pick out and replace baits. You can hang about 25-30 baits on a bucket.

Aint none of you have many spinnerbaits, your all a bunch of pikers. I have a friend who has 4-5,000 of them. Don't ask me why, I know you can throw only one at a time but he does. He's got more cranks than KVD and any other 2 pros. He's been bass fishing for 60 years, has no kids and is a tackle junkie.

Sorry, Rodney. I didn't know we were friends. Unless you're talking about my cousin John. He has about  a million cranks and spinner baits. All for sale.

Mike tks for sharing the tip with us.  I got all my spinner baits broken down in Ziploc Freezer bags.  They're bagged by weight, blade design and skirt color.  On the outside of the Ziploc bag is the size of the baits.

I lost count on how many but its more than (1) and less than few hundred  lo

Nope, a guy here by the Name of Sherman, nice guy just can't shake the monkey, best part is when he goes out with me he goes through my gear to see if I have something he doesn't. He's one of those guys you mind doing that. lo lo Oh, he also has between 6 and 700 rod and reel outfits. :shocking:

Well, could you maybe ask him if he'd like to adopt a 57 year old boy from New England?  lo

I'm trying to get adopted. Best part is he doesn't part with anything. He has a bad set of knees and ankles so he sold his boats and doesn't fish very much anymore, he's 4 or so years older than I am, but he still goes to BPS with me and comes home with new gear besides garage sales and craigslist. The monkey really has a hold of him. It's a shame he was one of the best I've ever seen at finding a pattern, I learned a lot from him!
