maybe I'm doing something wrong, but never had them break on me.  use 6, 8 lb flouro and 12#
suffix braid.

I've never had a failure on my spinning rods (usually 8 lb fluoro tied to 10 or 15 lb braid).  All my failures have occurred with heavier line on casting rods, like 12 or 14 lb leader double uni'd to 50 # braid.  Probably because methods used on a casting rod typically require a more violent hook set.

Can't say enough good things about FG knot  I can tie it pretty quick now and I have used it successfully on leaders from 6 to 17 lbs.  On one heavy leader I caught the fish in my avatar and 4 more over six plus 50 over 3.  One leader lasted the whole trip and I kept checking it but I was fine so I left it and it held.

I use three half hitches, then snip and then three more to cover the end of the leader.  It is so thin I can have the leader start all the way back almost to the reel so I can retie the lure several times without tying a new leader.  Good for dropshot when I need to retie but I'm over a school and if I took a full minute or two I might drift off.

Check out this video:

Use your rod for tension on the  braid and keep tension on the leader spool too by stepping or sitting on it.

Game changer for spinning, Alabama rigs, top water,...

I wanted to bring this thread back as I've been working really hard on this knot. I can't seem to pitch with it on my jig rod using the smaller Fugi Torzites. It's getting hung a tad and causing an overrun.

Anyone else had this problem?

cortman

I haven't had any problem with this knot. Can't say as I've used it with really small guides though. It is a pretty slim knot, don't think there really are any slimmer.

I'm about to give up and just stick with straight line.

That's what I did on my main jig setup, straight 20 lb. Tatsu.

I saw a video on tackle warehouse of one of their guys fishing a drop shot and he tied the Alberto knot at the end of the segment. No where near as easy as it looks but I guess with practice makes perfect.

I am looking forward to trying it this spring for a few of my rods I run braid on.

None of them are small enough to make it through these guides

i am with you when it comes to micro guides and using a leader.  with the way that i set the hook, i have also not found a leader connection that well take my hookset.  it seems as though the braid cuts the leader into everytime.

i just tie straight to the braid and do not seem to have any issues of not catching fish.  the a-rigs pretty much proved to me that the line is not spooking the fish away.  you line does affect sink rate and action.  i was just watching david fritts touting the benefits of braid when fishing crankbaits also.

I've never really noticed a difference in hook up rates with using a leader v's no leader. Granted I don't fish and catch near as much as most, but for me I haven't.

I was really hoping to find a decent leader knot to be used when I'm fishing really rocky areas that can do hell on my braid.

O well, retying braid is cheap and knots suck lo

I found the same problem Rockchalk.  the only answer I found was run straight line or braid or run short enough leader that the knot does not go in eyes.  that was my answer to the problem. Could not get a knot small enough that would not catch in the guides either

FG Knot works great for me. I use a knot assist 2.0 I ordered from Amazon to help tie it. Before I got the knot assist it hurt my teeth and jaw muscles while I held the line. At the end I 6 to 10 clinch knots according to line size cycled back and forth and the last one I double. I use braid for everything except cranking now that I can tie a proper fg knot.

This video helped me. It is a knot that needs practice

Tying an FG Knot - Braid to Fluoro/Mono Leader connection

I like the uni to uni knot.  It is not touted as the best, but for me it was the easiest to tie under real fishing conditions AND for me it is very reliable and effective.

Stash

Working on my knots. I feel like I don't miss many hits but maybe this will improves the hits I don't get.

WestSlope

I agree that no knot will go through the super small guides without catching.  If you are pitching you will likely have enough distance above your lure to tie any leader knot and just not reel it into the guides.  A uni-to-uni is super strong and you don't risk thinking it is good but not being certain like you can with the FG.  I purposefully choose rods with a little bit bigger guides if I want to run a leader.  For tiny guides no leader is definitely the way to go.

I have found that the FG works best for Braid to FC and uni to uni for braid to mono
