SO... long story short, by boat has had to sit outside under a shed instead of in the dry garage for a few months. It's under a shed, and has a cover on it. But obviously there's still moisture around.

I left my rods in the rod box b/c I didn't have any other option. Literally no where to store them inside as I would have prefered...

And as a result, today when I went to get everything ready for Guntersville next weekend, my rod handles have mildew on them. Cork, EVA, all of them.

What do ya'll use to clean handles that won't degrade the cork or EVA? I thought maybe some diluted clorox water a tooth brush. But a little dawn would probably be better.

So I'm thinking I'm gonna try the dawn first.

What would you try?

I'm not sure if it will work on the EVA material but I use bon ammi in a bucket of warm water and a rough sided Chore Boy sponge on my cork handles. I also put a little Bon Ammi directly on the wet sponge and run the handle under the bathtub faucet first. Two or three dips of the sponge in the bucket and a light touch gets everything off the cork and has it looking as good as new.

Anytime I have sold a rod with cork handles I did this and was always told the rod looked unused.  :-*

Magic Eraser, let the cork dry and seal with U-40 cork sealer.

Jon, you should test using hydrogen peroxide.  Should work well and won't harm other surfaces and will remove oils and grime from the cork.  Some folks use rubbing alcohol but I have never tried that although I do clean my keyboard keys with alcohol

I would something like Simple Green might work well, I'd like to see what Lee or WRT have to say about it.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

I on the magic eraser and U40 for the cork. As far as Eva, warm water and some dish soap should do.

My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

I've got plenty of U40. Only one or two of my rods have cork. And I think only one of those had mildew. All the others are EVA.
