Biggest catch from the Bank

This one I got last year in January. The cool thing about it was I was able to see the whole thing happen.

I pitched a creature bait next to a clump of floating pads. Saw this fish come from a distance to stare at the bait in a nose down position. I just let it sit there and didn't do anything. She looked at it for quite awhile then gently sucked it in and slowly swam away.

Set the hook and brought her in, using a BPS Spincast Reel and Rod combo outfit my wife uses. She was so cold she really didn't do much fighting.

Weighed right on 6 lbs.

What this taught me was that many times I move the bait to quickly after letting it hit the bottom.

You're right, a large portion of the fish I catch come from letting my bait sit for a bit before starting to move it. Last weekend I was fishing a canal and saw a decent size bass swim past me while my small swimbait was coming towards it face first. Perfect!
Well the fish looked at it swim past and didn't flinch. I killed the swimbait, let it drop into some rocks and the bass became interested. It swam down and watched the swimbait for a moment, stuck its mouth in the rocks probably smelling the bait. But it wasn't picking it up. I gave it the slightest twitch to get that reaction and it worked. The fish grabbed it but by the tail it seems. Unfortunately I set the hook too fast and pulled it out of its mouth. Because the rock ledge was in the way I wasn't sure if it had the entire bait. I should have let the fish swim off with it to verify but I would then run the risk of it spitting the bait out. So I took a chance and set.

Sometimes watching them can backfire. There is that anxiety that kicks in as you wait and try to make the fish grab the bait.
