Reels.

But I couldn't pass this one up at the price I paid for it! A 200 dollar reel for 120 on Amazon classified as Used Like New because the box was a little messed up.

The box is indeed a bit messed up but the reel inside look to be in perfect condition.

I loved the Daiwa Tatula Tactical so much that I decided to get this Tatula Type R! A few things I prefer on the Tactical is the all black look and the 100mm handle. This one has a red spool and red tension knob. It also has a 90mm handle. But the tactical is 175 dollars so I figured at 120 I'll sacrifice 10mm and the all black color.

Not quite like LMG. He owns more and more expensive stuff than me lol. I kind of max out at 200 for a reel. I think he might max out at double that lol

Yeah, $400 on a reel is my max. Only because I end up doing another $100 in modifications. Lol. Nice choice Rick. You are on your way to being a reel addict. Lol

In the regular and CT versions its usually just the spool, and a cool paint job that does it. Its usually like that with other Daiwas as well. Though, previous reels in the TypeR would be a better handle, spool, a few more bearings, gear ratio, and a cool paint job. Sometimes its just the "TypeR" limited factor thats appealing to. I guess you have to be an "enthusiest" of the Daiwas to really get it sometimes.

Nice reel! I use a Tatula Type R for frogging and punching. Super solid reel, never felt a bit of flex under some really heavy loads.
I've been on a bit of a reel kick lately too... A Metanium MGL and just recently a well used Daiwa TDZ105. The TDZ is going to be a project reel- hoping to do a new paint job, new handle and some other goodies. Already comes with a blue ZPI spool.

Ah, you bought that reel. That spool alone us worth some bucks. I almost bought it to part them and sell individually. Lol

Yep, was me. The seller gave me a few extra bucks off his asking price. Said any lower and he was going to part it out. I thought I got a decent deal. Seller was great to work with.
Once it's redone I think it will be my moving bait reel- 6.3:1 is ideal for that IMO.
I'll probably be posting some questions about restoration on Tackle Tour soon- that community will probably have some advice for such a thing. :)

The difference between a standard Tatula and a Type R, other than graphics, is the spool weighs slightly less, and there are 2 corrosion resistant bearings inside instead of 1.  Also The Tatula Type R offered a 8-1 gear ratio.  In theory it should handle slightly lighter weight baits. In reality  I do not think it matters if you have a Tatula, Tatula Type R, a Tatula CT or a Tatula CT Type R. They all seem to function about the same.  In my opinion they function perfectly and that would account for the reason I own 1 Exceler, 2 Tatula CTs and 3 Tatula Type Rs.  I have sold off all of my Shimanos and am slowly selling off my Bass Pro reels in favor of more CTs. I have been fishing with the Type Rs for the last 3 years and the Exceler for just over a year. the CTs of course are the newest.  NO I am not really best friends with the equipment monkey! HE JUST DROPS BY ONCE IN A WHILE!

The Tackle Trap has plenty of parts for those things available. I would suggest to put a new set of gears while they are still available, and then you can look into the Hedgehog Studio stuff for cosmetics. I personally would sell the ZPI spool in favor of an SLP SV spool. As far as painting, there is Calfish (if he's still around), or Decade Works out of Japan. Yes, TT is a bit more on the enthusiast side. Haha

This type r in particular has the paint job a lighter spool a zaion drag star. Not really a big difference. I certainly wouldn't have paid full retail for it.

Spooled her up the other day with 15lb Seaguar InvizX Fluorocarbon and finally got to fish! I am absolutely sold on these Tatula reels! The brake system is fantastic, the reel is smooth as butter, the drag is smooth. I am impressed without a doubt!
One thing I have never done before is fish with straight fluoro. I've tried copoly and always found it hard to manage. I was warned about fluoro being hard to manage and harder to cast than mono or braid. But I risked it and spooled up the reel with it.
I was fishing off the bank in about 15-20 mph winds. Throwing a trig with 1/16 bullet weight and a 5 inch zoom mag finesse worm. Casting into the wind I had no issues. The brakes go from 0-20 and I had them set at 8. I was able to cast effortlessly a fairly good distance. When casting with the wind i was bombing that finesse worm.
Had 1 overrun the entire time and it wasn't very bad, and that was just me trying to max out my cast with 0 thumbing. Love this reel! My 1 and only wish was that it was a bit lighter. Too bad I don't like the looks of the CT Type R.
