Does the zoom on all finders show more detail or it just enlarges what you see at normal range??

Zoom makes it easier to see the detail and separation that is there. On high pixel units this can be a significant help. A unit that has aloe pixel count, the zoom isn't going to help much.

My units are 800x480 and I can see some significant improvements on separation with zoom. Now it's definitely more useful in deeper water.

I would think there are advantages to the zoom feature with a 480x480. Especially when investigating deeper ledges or brush piles. Zoom really comes in to play for me over 20 fow. It's helpful in 15 fow but anything less not so much. Now I'm not an electronics guru either.

Yeah but your unit has a lot more pixles than the 480/480 I have but it works in the same way I have to upgrade when I make some more $$$$$$$$$

It is not about how many pixels the whole screen has, it's about their density or pixels per square inch.

A 480 X 480 pixel 5" display has a pixel density of 18,808 per square inch.
The same pixel density on a 10" display would be 960 X 960

The highest pixel density that any of my current units have is 14,513 per square inch.

I used to have a 5" display with 640 X 640 pixels or 31,170 pixels per square inch. That was a Humminbird 798ci SI Combo. The only other comparable display was what Eagle had with their 640 model.

Thanks for the information! The 5'' lowrance I have will work good in water deeper than 15' and 20' ft thats about as deep as it gets around here to look for fish on it.

Short answer; yes it will. Next time you are out spend some time experimenting, those older units had good capability.
