Have decided to go with a helix 9 insted of a 7 and after thinking how I fish I may put it on the bow with the tranducer on TM. As Mike said in another post on this, most of the lakes i fish are shallow, however i saw some of Waynes screen shots in 3ft of water so i am thinking that would be good. Would like to be able to go to a dock or some trees and see if there are fish there. Found the KVD helix 9 witth si for $815 on internet

The Helix 9 SI GPS comes with the same Compact SI transducer that the Helix 7 SI GPS does.

I would recommend you exchange that for the better transducer XTM 9 HDSI 180 T or XHS 9 HDSI 180 T. Both are the same transducers, just different mounts and different cable lengths (15' rather than 20').

The larger HDSI transducer has longer SI crystals that produce a thinner SI pulse and sharper images.

XTM 9 HDSI 180 T.

5' less cable to manage.

The exchange is handled through Humminbird Customer Service.
If they do not have the XTM in stock, you can use the XHS. The cost difference is about $85 including shipping, not including sending the Compact SI transducer to Humminbird.

Sent back tranducer for exchange per humminbird chart, now find out new tranducer won't ship until Nov 27. Little ticked unit is available on web and $50 cheaper than factory. Why did factory sell everything to distributors and keep nothing for exchanges. Now have helix that I cannot even test or use until after thanksgiving.

Just common sense. You are not the only one that wants to exchange the transducer to the higher end one.

Just for the Helix models, the Helix 5 SI GPS, Helix 7 SI GPS, and Helix 9 SI GPS comes with the Compact SI transducer and will perform better with the HDSI transducer.
Add to that the close-out sales on the number series units that come with the Compact SI transducer.
