I like braid for cranking. I use 40# Power Pro Slick 8. Smooth, no memory and its strong as all get out. I crank with a St. Croix Avid MHM rod that has a ton of give. I don't need the stretch of mono/fluoro to help land a fish.

Another big reason I use braid is to get my crankbaits back. I bank fish 90% of the time. Using braid, I can bend a hook point flat and generally get my crankbait back.

My last reason is lack of line memory. Braid has none. I don't crank very often at all. I have had the same braid on my cranking rig for 4 years now. I can pick it up and make a cast today and have zero memory like I did 4 years ago.

Whats a cranking rig?  lo

Braid, very thin, lots of line capacity, get your bait back.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

I'm not a braid guy so I usually use 8 or 10lb Invisx. I like the stretch and it handles well.
Good ol Maxima or CXX will get the job done fine if you want to save a few bucks..
In fact my wiggle wart rod has 8lb Maxima on it .

Fluoro or mono for me. A little stretch makes me feel better fishing treble hook baits.

Braid. If I am fishing extremely rocky areas and I start breaking off baits for no apparent reason, or my line is fraying a lot then I will switch to flouro for the extra abrasion resistance.  :-*

The only time I use Flouro is when fishing a tournament.  I use Braided line when flipping and pitching only into really thick matted stuff.  My everyday fun fishing line of choice is Berkeley Big Game 15 & 20lb clear mono.

I use braid for worms, jigs, creatures baits that move slow. Flouro is used for cranks, spinnerbaits, suspending jerkbaits, rattle baits things like that. Mono is for anything that floats(don't use frogs), Toad or swimming frogs are different, I use braid. The thing to do is to experiment to see what you prefer.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

Thanks rodney, that kind of confirms what I thought. I like to use mono for my flukes too, because I often "walk the dog" with them.  Interesting about the froggin line though, I'll have to remember that. I'm leaning towards flouro for my moving bait rig. If I don't like it, then braid.
