I have Minn Kota Terrova with iPilot.  One of the features is I can record several tracks in the GPS and the trolling motor will follow them on command in the future.  When I first got the TM I was recording a long track along an underwater channel that twisted and turned along a 12 foot flat.  The idea was that I'd simply hit "play" in the future and cast as I went without having to steer the boat.

I deployed the trolling motor and began steering the boat along the channel at a speed of 1-3 MPH depending on how the wind was doing.  Recording a 1 mile track was going to take a while.

I soon discovered that with the Terrova (and probably many others that have this feature) you don't need to record the track while under trolling motor power.  All the TM needs is the GPS turned on.  Having figured this out I pulled up the TM, hit record, and drove the route using the big motor.

It was WAY faster and I got back to fishing.  I hope this saves you some time.

For those that don't have it, you have no idea how nice it is to to hit the follow button, set the speed and do nothing but watch and concentrate on the fish. When you reach the end of a track, hit the button again and follow it back or move on to the next one.
