I tend to be impatient and wanted to try my new Prolite out so I stuffed some mono on it then some left over Power Pro 14 lb with an 8 lb flouro leader, it didn't fill the spool but was close. I put it on a older 7' med action Bionic Blade with a 1/4 ounce Arkie Flat Eye jig from my shop. I hit the water with one technique to get a fair idea of what I could expect, after getting it set up, free spool, centrifugal brakes set at 2 and magnetic set half way with a soft thumb worked best. I was able to make 40 or so foot roll casts with ease, didn't half to muscle it, and the thumb gave a soft entry. Did some shorter range, 15-20 foot pitching, and it performed very nicely. Got a good test of the drag, I went into an area with a bunch of pilings just under the surface in 4- 8 fow and holds fish this time of year, while I didn't pop and fish, several boats beat me to it, I snagged what I thought was a piling. Yep, I did the pull hard deal with the drag locked down, the piling gave, turned out to be a Flicker Shad snagged and 30 or so feet of line wrapped around several pilings, got it all aboard. ;D Went to another area. I popped one fish, 21/4- 21/2 lbs, I loosened the drag to give the fish some room, drag was smooth and even. :) I really like this reel, it's smooth, lite, and seems to handle whatever I'll ask it to do. Next test will be with an 1/8 ounce jig and 4" grub, I'm sure it'll be decent though it's a technique I'll do with a spinning outfit most of the time.
Over all I'm very pleased with the reel for lighter weights and would like to pick up another one for a dedicated jerkbait rod. For now it gets a good cleaning and relubing.

I'm a big fan of the Pro Lites that were made about 8 or 10 years ago. They look a lot like a Daiwa Sol.
Great little finesse reel. I throw pointer 78's and 1.5's ect. on them.
They've gotten hard to come by, but every once in a while one shows up on a auction site.

Is there a new model being made? I can't find it on the BPS website.

I don't think so which is too bad, I like them, for the money they got high reviews and I think would be a good seller. The Carbonlite, nice as it is, is not a finesse reel. They haven't been offered since 20014, the one I just bought came off EBAY and was leftover stock, wish I bought both that were available.
