Shift / Throttle help

Need some help guys. I have a 91 Champion 176 w/ Evinrude 150. The other day the red neutral lock on the shift / throttle handle broke and the handle is stuck in neutral. From everything I could find online about removing the handle, it looks like it needs to be able to move full forward to remove. How can I get this thing off if I cant move it out of neutral?

If it's anything like a Merc remote control you'll have to replace it.

If you Lucy the lock on the throttle handle, could you pull on the throttle cable at the engine to get it to move?

Not to sound trite but have you Googled the problem? It's amazing what you can find help for.
