Feel like I need to share my buddy and I's near death experience this weekend. So we were backing in the trailer at the boat launch, throw it in park, and go and talk for about 5 minutes or so. I hop in the bed of the truck and then onto the trailer to hand him the winch to get the boat up. The next thing we know, we hear a clunk and see the truck rolling towards us into the water. The trailer hits the boat and knocks my buddy into the water, where he cuts his leg open and later has to get 12 stitches. I jump from the trailer and into the tailgate and somehow end up in the drivers seat where I throw it into drive and manage to get the truck out of the water. To let you realize how far into the water the truck was, the tailgate was completely underwater and the front tires were about 2 inches from being submerged. The back seat was wet and the floor board was under. It was just about to be in the front seat when I jumped from the bed and swung in. Let me remind you all that the truck was in park, as we talked for a solid 5 minutes before any of this happened. The craziest part is that my buddies mom woke up in the middle of the night before praying for him. God definitely had his hand on us that night, one wrong move and the truck and both of us could have ended up in the bottom the lake.

This is why the parking brake should always be set, always. The parking pall is not that strong and shouldn't be relied on to hold a vehicle.

Wow! Sorry your buddy had to get stitched up. The man upstairs was watchin' over ya for sure. Those dang parking pins have a tendency to pop out sometimes.

thats why you always set the parking brake the parking pawl on some vehicles is rather weak like in your case it just didnt have enough to hold the truck.i can tell you its no fun to be laying in the floor board of a truck working on fuse box when it jumps out of park.

Glad to hear your ok. Gives ya a scare for sure.  Something someone told me once has always stuck with me. A mechanical device can and will fail at the worst time.

Wow!!! That was a close call. Glad it wasn't any worse. Your quick action saved the day. I have often thought about my truck slipping out of park on a steep ramp but never dwelled on it. But from now on I will set my parking brake. So many things can go wrong when unloading or reloading a boat. Safety First. And I always wear my PFD. I put it on before I get in my boat and take it off after I get out of my boat. You get used to wearing one and you never realize you have it on.

Glad everyone is ok.  Stitches will heal.
