Live Well Lid

Being only 5' 7" I can't reach the live well recessed lid handle when I'm standing next to my trailered boat. So I installed an orange strap on one side of the lid. It's held in place by a screw on the underside of the lid rib. By using a loose strap rather than a loop or a raised handle I don't have to worry about my foot getting caught on the strap or the handle. And believe it or not just pulling on the strap on the end of the lid will open the lid easily. No more stepping up on the trailer frame and leaning over the deck to pull up on the recessed lid handle. Even when I'm in the boat I will sometimes use the strap to open the live well. Legend boats used straps for all their boxes for a couple years and I loved it. Then they went to latches so they could be locked. I enjoy the quick grab of the straps much better and never thought to leave the latches open and install my own straps

Can you offer some advice for a livewell lid that does not have that rib across it to screw the strap to ? I think your tip is great. I have trouble pulling up my livewell too.   Thank you.

I would think a flathead machine screw and nut with a couple of flat washers, all stainless steel, would suffice.

That's a great idea. I've got a friend who has bad neuropathy & his hands don't work well. That would make it a lot easier on him to open. I'm goi. To share this idea with him. Thanks for sharing it with us!
