Alright guys I am new to the forum. I am going to talk about something most people probably don't do or have never done. That is flipping docks with crankbaits. I am not talking about running them along the edges or down through the slip no I am talking flipping crankbaits under docks just like a jig or Texas rigged soft platics. First let's start with bait selection for shallow docks (0-5ft) I like to pitch a balsa squarebill that dives 0-3ft deep. Now for deeper docks (5ft-10ft) I prefer a bait that gets down in that 5 foot range and I always prefer a squarebill. Docks any deeper than that and I am go with a crankbait that gets down in that 10 foot range. Now on to the line this is key right here always use braid tied directly to the crankbait no leader. You are going to break enough crankbaits by hitting docks and such with them you don't need the fish to help you lose them. I like to use braid in the 50-65lb test range. On to the presentation I will flip the bait up under the dock as far back as possible and then crank down fast to get it down to the desired depth then slow crawl back to the boat at that point. The strikes on this presentation are furious and you can't miss it they don't just load up on it they hitting it to kill and eat usually when I get them to the boat its in the back of their mouth. One final thing is the rod I use the same rod I flip jigs with a 7ft 6in extra heavy this allows me to get fish outta there and not hang the fish or allow it to hang me.

This is definitely a hazard but the best way to avoid it is grab the crankbait by the back and flip that way I have a buddy that doesn't even touch the bait just let's out the right amount of line and flips it up there.
