Last Sunday I fished a team tournament with a Korean friend who is a host from a fishing show on the Korean TV channel. We arrived on Saturday afternoon with another one of my friends (owner of the "Lure in Korea" tackle shop in Busan) so the 3 of us could get a few hours practice on the water. We were fishing out of my friends Champion boat this weekend and I pulled it to the lake as his car was out of order. When we arrived there, he realized that he had left his rods and both fish finders at home, great start to the weekend!! (a few other guys were coming later on Saturday night and they brought his missing tackle for him).

During practice I decided all I was going to throw was the Alabama rig, determined to catch a bass on it. Well I did just that. As I slowly dragged it along the lake bed in 30 feet of water, a bass just slammed the rig hard. After a great fight I landed a nice bass.

That was the only one I caught on Saturday, but I did have another bite on the a-rig, but it was a short bite and the bass stole the tale off of one of my SureCatch Hyper Minnow swimbaits.

My friends caught a few using jigheads and creature type worms.

Sunday morning in the tournament, we headed back to the spot where we had the best luck on Saturday and within 2 casts my friend caught a nice bass on the jighead. About 5 minutes later we saw a bunch of good sized fish on the fish finders in 30 foot of water sitting tight to the bottom, so I dragged my a-rig along the bottom as slow as I could possibly turn the reel handle and I felt a huge hit......which I somehow missed, so I cast the a-rig back out to the same spot, let it sink to the bottom and started dragging again, within seconds the bass hit hard again, but this time the bass was mine. Photographed and in the livewell.

We had several more short bites throughout the day, but no more fish until the last hour of the tournament when my friend caught a small keeper on a jighead and craw worm. We finished in 7th place out of 39 boats, so not too bad.

Water temps were 40 degrees, and not air temps about the same, but the little to no wind all day made it quite bareable and pleasant.

I think you maybe the only other person on here from Korea and I was wondering if you know of a decent place to fish from land. I'm located in Waegwan near the river.. Also is your buddies shop a pretty good place? I need to pick up a bunch of stuff next weekend. Thanks!

I am not familiar with the location of Waegwan, which river are you referring to?

Oh ok  :)

My buddy's shops is small but has a decent selection of goods that you'll need. The shop is located opposite the Hopo train station near the Yangsan and Nakdong rivers intersection.

Fish are currently a good cast away from the Nakdong river shoreline at the bottom of the second ledge in 18 foot of water and getting ready to come shallower soon.

I went down there yesterday and couldn't find it. I got off at the Hopo station and walked for a bit with no luck. Just saw a bunch of flower shops and no one really spoke English haha

How is the bass fishing in Korea during the winter season? We're about to leave to fish the Pyeongtaek River from Yongsan.
