Trying to read opinions on a good squarebill rod. The 704cb and 705cb seem to be great choices. I use the Speed Traps mostly in 1/4oz. Not a lot of grass in the lakes I fish. Mostly fish rock, rip-rap, docks, and brush. I like the sensitivity of graphite; but most seem to like the glass. I use two rods now; one is a 6'9" light graphite rod that works well (short cast). The other is a 7' graphite/glass composite; that seems to be too wimpy and has lack of feel. I'm looking at distance for clearer water also. Would the 705cb or 705cb/glass work for the Speed Traps? I would like to use it for med. cranks also.

I use the 705CB glass as an all purpose crank/trap rod. It's not a good choice when you go to extremes but in fairly clean water and staying away from big or deep diving baits, I've found it does it all really well. The Dobyns glass rod is a blend of graphit and glass that gives you the flex/give of glass and the feel of graphite. Some angler do say it's not as sensitive as an all graphite rod. But for my uses its plenty sensitive, I can easily tell bottom composition with any crank and strikes are easily detected, even when the bite is so soft that it's simply a change in bait feel.

I have two different crankbaits rods 1) dobyn's glass 2) St croix tourny bass.
I tend to use the dobyns more for anything that dives more the 6ft plus and has a great feel to it. I also the same rod for spooks and works great with long casts and various retrieves I want to use.
I tend to use the st croix for lipless/squarebills.

I will say I love the feel of the glass rod

Either one would work great for Speed Traps, the 705 will throw the 2.5 size square bills better if you ever want to bump up to bigger baits

I throw a lot of 1/4 oz speed traps and 1.5 square bills and I throw them on my 705cb glass rod. Perfect match for those baits in my opinion

Thanks for the input. I was able to find a tackle shop close by today to put my hands on a Dobyn's for the very first time. They had the 705 glass; but not the graphite; and I thought the glass rod would be good. They had the 764cb Randy McAbee, and the 765cb also. I like cranking; but I've only been so-so happy with my crank bait rods. Looking at these I can see why they are talked about so much. Think I'm going to start updating some of my crank rods.
