WARSAW, Mo. (June 16, 20143) – B.J. Davis of Mountain Home, Ark., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 12 pounds, 11 ounces Saturday to win the fourth Walmart Bass Fishing League Ozark Division tournament of 2014 on Lake Truman. For his victory, Davis earned $3,671.

     Tournament reports said that Davis fished deep, in 16 to 20 feet of water targeting the base of trees with a red shad-colored worm.

     Rounding out the top 10 pros were:

            2nd:   John Krewson, Overbrook, Kan., four bass, 10-11, $1,835
            3rd:   Kevin Smith, Lincoln, Mo., five bass, 10-9, $1,224
            4th:   Randall Hutson, Washburn, Mo., five bass, 10-7, $856
            5th:   Jeffery Smith, Knob Noster, Mo., five bass, 10-3, $734
            6th:   Marcus Sykora, Osage Beach, Mo., four bass, 10-2, $673
            7th:   Jim Banks, Lamar, Mo., three bass, 8-12, $612 + $300 Evinrude Bonus
            8th:   Eric Nance, Washington, Mo., three bass, 8-4, $551
            9th:   David Mangelsdorf, Imperial, Mo., three bass, 8-0, $489
            10th: Bryan Baker, Knob Noster, Mo., four bass, 7-14, $428

      John Buchanan of Jefferson City, Mo., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 13 pounds, 11 ounces Saturday to win $1,835 in the co-angler division.

            6th:   Samuel Haines, Manhattan, Kan., three bass, 6-8, $321
            6th:   Tad Huff, Harrison, Ark., three bass, 6-8, $321
            8th:   Travis Bowring, Kansas City, Mo., three bass, 6-4, $275
            9th:   Josh Spencer, St. Charles, Mo., three bass, 5-13, $245
            10th: Roger Edwards, Tuscumbia, Mo., two bass, 5-5, $214

     The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 16-18 Regional Championship on Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Jasper, Texas. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.

     The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.

 Those are some low weights. We were down there Saturday catfishing and it was windy as heck. I was thinking about those guys while watching the white caps roll by.
