Transducer mounting location on Z-7

I have a 2013 Z-7.  In my dash, I have the Elite 7 HDI flush mounted and the transducer is mounted at the rear of the boat to the right of the motor on the "step", not on the hull.  The unit works great while fishing, but once I get on plane, I lose the depth reading.  I think its coming out of the water and should possibly be mounted below the step on the hull.  Has anyone had this problem?  Sure would hate to have to have two more holes in the boat if it needs to be moved, but having depth while driving is important to me.

I wonder if it's possible to use dual transducers & a Y-cable on the 7HDI? Then you could just get a thru-the-hull & add it in.

Im sure there is a way, but, I don't want to spend money on something that is supposed to work as is.  Im sure there is a simple solution.  I contacted BPS here is Bossier today, and had a good talk with one of the service guys.  He offered up to just try to loosen the bracket and slide the transducer down to see if that works, and if it doesn't, he said hes sure that they would try to help me out with moving it, or whatever.  So far, Im pretty impressed with BPS's service department.  ~c~

This may be a dumb  question but when you say your losing depth   Are you on your chart page and losing the overlay depth , does it do the same thing on the 2d sonar page ?  Reason I was curious is , I thought you had 2 ducers built into one unit and if your losing your overlay depth on your charts at speed have you tried selecting the 83/200 ducer as your overlay source ? Or is that possible on these units ? I know I lose my down imaging at speed  but my 2D ducer reads up to around 60-65   Todd will be along soon I'm sure and would know. But I'd try just 2d sonar screen and see what speed you quit tracking bottom at  just to see if your overlay depth is using the DI portion instead of the 83/200. Might be way off  too.

I think he's more worried that where it's at, it's out of the water.

I haven't tried changing mine for running either, but I might try, I have the 5.

But I'm almost positive that my problem is that mine is dry while running, where I have it mounted on my basscat. BCB's tend to ride high while on plane ;)

I have switched to GPS, Sonar and DI.  It happens as soon as I hit on plane and starts up again as soon as I come down.

Post up a pic if you have one. I bet you're right, it's dry while running. Here's where mine is on the Sabre, and I'm positive it's dry while running.

I don't have a photobucket account or anything, but I can text you the pics if you want to see them.  PM me your number and I will get them to you.
