ok here is he deal. My daughter is going to her grandparents this weekend for a week. i want to take a trip to el dorado. i have an 18ft nitro with a 115 on it. i want to fish for bass. both large and small mouth. Need some advice or any info about the lake. this is a catch and release only trip. my livewell doesnt hold water so i just throw them back after a picture. i will have a back seat if you want to go. this will be my last trip in the boat for the year as i will be winterizing it and cleaning it up over the winter. so i really would like to catch some fish. Let me know. you can shoot me a pm if you dont want your advice public or if you want to fish just send your number. i dont know which day or time yet but i want to fish all day. im a stay at home dad and this is my vaction for the year lol. thanks in advance.

My advice would be to skip El Dorado all together, especially if your going to target large and small mouth.  Drive the extra hour and change and fish Melvern, it is a much better lake for small mouth, it will almost always produce better than El Dorado in my opinion.

Two other lakes that are close in distance to El Dorado that I much prefer are Butler and Polk Daniels.

Melvern has been really tough as of late also and I'm sure the cooling water temps haven't helped any. I've actually heard some pretty good reports from El Dorado for smallmouth but I've never heard much about largemouth out there.

If it were me I'd pick a day during the week with light winds and head to Coffey County. The smallies have been on pretty good out there and the largemouth have been starting to pick up pretty well also. No monsters but really solid 1.5-3 pound fish and good numbers makes for a good time. Lots of whites and wipers some days are an added bonus. If the wind forecast is over 15mph don't go out there though. You have to wear a life jacket the whole time so an inflatable makes life much easier on you out there. Tubes and jerkbaits have been the deal for us the last 2 weeks.

Thanks. I'll look into those lakes and see what I can find.
