My dad is giving me his Lakesport aluminum boat when I go home for New Years. It doesn't have carpet so in the future I would like to add some. Is there a particular brand/type that is better than others as far as durability, texture, resistance to hooks getting snagged beyond hope? TIA for any responses.

Google boat carpet. you'll find a plethora of brands to choose from along with instructions to install it. Go with the best you can afford. If it's me I'm looking at marine grade vinyl, lighter and very easy to clean. The site Tinboats has a great deal of info also, they show a lot of restorations and how to pics.
Welcome to the site, pull up a chair, pop a cold one, and wander about to see what you can find. It's a good group of folks, and there is a lot of knowledge here.

Bedliner instead?
As in spray-in bedliner? My only concern with that is how hot it would get if I wanted to take my shoes off. Lol. Any ideas how much one would cost for a boat? I also thought about the rubber mats.

Yes spray in. Grey shouldn't be too bad. It's definitely durable
