QuoteI have several old Johnson's Silver Minnow spoons, as well as newer ones and use them quite a bit.

Have you ever used them with a trailer such as pork frog or 7" worm? The action is phenomenal on the larger spoons!!!

Next week I'll be fishing with a guy that hasn't upgraded his tackle in 10 years and I know for a fact that his fishing success is second nature. I'm taking the camera along to document fish caught on lures that have got to be over 20 years old and many you'd never even consider using or have heard about recently such as Mepps and Bomber A.

Frank, I prefer the thinner pork strips to the frogs, but have also used the big pork eel (black of course) with those spoons. I've played with various plastics too, but always seem to go back to the pork.

You have given me an idea however!  :-*

I just ordered some Strike King 10" Anaconda Rage tails. I like throwing them & the smaller 7" on a jig head for Striped bass, as an eel imitation. On a big Silver Minnow, the extra wobble might give them an even different eel like action. I'll have to check that out & see!  :)

Jim, my first pork/Silver Minnow Spoon combo was using a black spoon rigged with a black #1 or # 4 pork frog. I'm thinking of trying out my plastic chunk copies on the spoon.

When I poured them I made sure the tails were super thin and used super soft plastic.

My all time favorite trailer for a black hair jig is still a black 3" eel pounded with mallet to make it super pliable. Now I'm going to have to get them out of storage!! ~rant Thanks!

Good luck with the longer worm but I've found that a slimmer worm tail and length 7" or less have the best action behind a spoon. Tell us how you do.

I was just looking at the Uncle Josh website. I wasn't aware that they have a 9" pork eel! In my previous post I said the "big eel", but that was actually the Black Widow Eel I had used, which is 3/8 " wide & only 6" long. They work pretty well with the Silver Minnows. I'll give both the 7" & 10" Anaconda's a try & see what happens.  ;D
