Treble Hooks

This may be a dumb question but what size treble hooks do you run on lipless crankbaits?

depends on the size of the crank.  Most of them are 4-5-6 in size.

How can you determine the size of the hook on that ?

I have some lipless that I want to replace but I cant even figure out what size I need ...

I replace all of my lipless crankbait hooks with 2X Short  1X Strong Mustad KVD Triple Grip Trebles.  They have the extra short shank hook that won’t allow the hooks to get tangled up.  The Triple Grip design really helps keep them buttoned up.  Generally, most ¼ oz. baits will use a #6 and most ½ oz. and up baits will take a #4.

Willowblade......hi5 to that! All my c.b.'s and lipless c.b.'s have the 2x 1x strong KVD hooks on em'. I very seldom lose a fish on them with a rod that has a soft tip.!!!

I run #2s on lots of cranks. The KVD trebles are short shank and they wont tangle that easy. Ive had them tangle every once in awhile...but not often enough to change sizes.

It all depends on the style of bait and placement of hooks as well. You can mix the sizes at times too. Lipless and shallow divers dont get effected by hook weight like a jerkbait will. They stay in motion almost all the time, or usually rise with shallow cranks.

Triple grips are great hooks. You should be able to get the hook size from the maker, check on line. By upsizeing the front hook on a crank you can make the bait have a nose down attitude and pick up a few extra inches in depth. By changing sizes you can make a bait rise much slower or even suspend or sink slowly. There can be more than one reason to make hook changes.
