What a day!  My brother in law and me got to launch around 730 and went into one of our favorite spawning areas.  A large flat about 2ft deep all the way across.  We could see lilly pads starting to grow below the surface and bass rolling everywhere! water temps that morning started at 62degrees and warmed to 66 that afternoon in this particular area.  Picked up our first several slots on a bait i put together, Senko with a #3 willow spinner.  Then, we stumbled upon a gold mine.  Literally hundreds of beds, they looked like new money shining in the sun!  We backed off and watched for swirls, man these fish were puttijng on a show for us.  When we saw a big swirl we would throw past and slowly drag our bait across the bed.  First big fish was a 20.5" 7.1lber.  She put up an awesome fight!  Then just a few casts later, no more than 15yds away i hooked into another big female, a 21" 6.9lber that had already spawned out.  Her belly felt hollow but she was beautiful.  With eggs she would have been over 8 for sure.  We continued doing this for a while in other areas and let that area rest.  We came back before leaving and were able to catch many more slots and buck bass sight fishing, if the wind would have subsided we would have had a legendary day!  The 25mph gusts made sight fishing a little tough as the day went on.  Fellas all i can say is get your polarized glasses, get on the water and head to the shallows!  What a fun time to be on the water   ~c~

I had one of my best days of fishing ever and let alone on Caddo yesterday. I had a gameplan and it definitely worked. Like you, I went to one of my Fav spawning grounds. Immediately caught male on spinner bait, the. Picked up creature bait and caught a 6pounder on first flip. Entered in the area and looked around. Saw beds everywhereeeee!!! And boy were they aggressive. Within 30 mins I had a a limit of 28lbs. I don't how many bass we caught. I lost count and all were on beds. I let that area rest and moved on across the lake. I got back to into a really clear pocket secluded by trees and immediately saw males cruising. This is pretty interesting. This area had no females around, and every bed in this area you could see eggs and the males were doing there job. Caught ten in there all males. I started feeling really sick, but decided to push through because of this legendary day of fishing with my dad. We headed back to the spot from earlier, and immediately caught 3 males sight fishing. Went down a little further and spotted about a 12lber cruising. I looked a little further and identified her bed with a male waiting. I caught the male immediately, but after putting him back I felt really sick and body aching. I looked around for the 12 but couldn't see her. So I decided that we kicked enough bass and we headed back to ramp. Our best five went 34lbs with an 8lb kicker. Every fish came off beds. All on one plastic bait and one spinnerbait. Another fascinating experience while fishing in our Fav spot was witnessing giant buffalo fish constantly breaking water and tearing it up in the flat. I saw several swim by our boat and even one at least 40-50lbs swim under our boat. Caddo definitely has plenty of gar as well. I also watched a bass inhale a snake after we scared away from getting in our boat. When we scared it it dove under the water and happened to land on a bed. Next thing I saw was a huge female inhale the snake. Never saw it again lol. I didn't really want to catch her with that snake still in her throat.

Now to some biology and science. I believe that the reason why our second area only had males around and already eggs on bed, was because of different areas of lake warm up different and receive different amounts of sunlight. Our original and most productive area still has females around and no eggs on bed because different parts of lake are in slightly different stages of spawn. But I think they are spawning in all areas.

What a fascinating day of fishing. Water temps 63.5-67. All fish came from 2ft or less. With 2 coming from 3ft
