Some of you may have heard of my sheriff. He was once quoted saying "We ran out of bullets" in response when asked about why the cops shot a cop killer so many times. Anyway I thought this was cool and figured I'd share. They built a new station a year or so back, there is a small pond. Looks like now with the release of these baby bass. In the near future kids will have a chance to catch some fish!

In our ongoing efforts to make Polk County a great place to live, work and play, 6500 largemouth bass were released in a small lake near the Sheriff's Operation Center in Winter Haven Thursday, March 21, 2013. "We are always looking for new opportunities to make Polk County a better place to live, work and play," said Sheriff Grady Judd. "The fish release today is just one part of a bigger plan to share Florida's beauty with Polk County's children. There are children in our distressed communities who deserve the chance to learn about conservation and responsible outdoor sports activities. Thanks to our partners at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Bass Conservation Center, children who might never have the chance to fish will get that chance here during COPs and Community programs." The fish, approximately 40 millimeters in length, were transported by Michael Matthews and Allen Nicholles from the FBCC before being released in the nearby lake. Major Dennis Post, FWCC, assisted in the release. The fish should mature within a year.

Good to hear, I was there when they shot that guy, man was that a crazy couple of days.

Do they still stock catfish in a couple of the ponds for the Kids derby? That was a pretty cool event.
