Members,
I think someone said if, those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it, fit me
pretty good last Saturday on Cypress. Started out using fluorcarbon line, on the third fish line
snapped, looked at my line and it looked like a beaver at been chewing on it. That's when I remembered why I don't like fluorcarbon. About 11.00 I decided to downsize my worm and went to
a smaller hook, a number two instead of a three, bad choice, second cast, set the hook and didn't
even move her, she started swimming off and I turned her around, in time to see her come up and
go back down when my hook popped out, well over five pounds, then I remembered the same thing
happened to me on Caddo year before. I felt sick for about half hour. Then I remembered the good
Lord has blessed me with Big Bass a few years, and ended up in third place with one
close to four pounds. Anyone else with a big bass lost at boat story,
Take Care, and see ya at the next tourny,
God Bless

Hey Mike,
I didn't lose anyfish Saturday (missed a couple on hookset), but I also didn't have anything over 3lbs.  Caught some on spinnerbait and some on lizard with 1/32oz weight, #3 light wire Gamagatzu, and 12lb flourocarbon.  I'm not a big fan of flourocarbon either but I'll try to get away with it this time of year to feel those light taps on the lizard.  I think my biggest improvement on this setup has been the Dobyns SS 733C rod.  Its 7'3" with a fair amount of backbone but a very soft tip.  I can cast light stuff very well and still get very good feel.  I think the soft tip also helps fight fish on the light line and hook.  Many of my tournament bass last year came on this setup with small plastics.  I'll switch to 14lb monofilament and still have pretty good results.  Haven't hooked into a big one on this but have caught a few 4's with no problems.

Jeff,
I heard several people using the Dolyns rod, do they sell them locally? I'm still waiting on my
custom rod I won  in our Classic Tourny last year, I think that's the one you were duck
hunting. I ended up in third with big bass in the Classic. I've decided to stick with my Big Game
12 pound. The flurocarbon just has to many varibles, if you don't tie the knot right, keep checking
for cuts etc. Found out today the Red River Oilmen's tourny, is the same day as our April tournyment,
4/13/13, so it looks like this will be my first missed tourny. Thinking about going to Caddo this
weekend, to see if I can stick a big one, the weather is going to be right. Caddo is where I got my
personal best 12lb2oz on Texas side, love that lake. Take care and good luck fishing,

I got my Dobyns at Bayou Outdoors.

Isn't our April 13th tourny out of RRS also?  Maybe you can do both?  If I'm there at all it will be half a day.  I'm gonna run in the Compassion Dash 5K that Haughton Baptist is doing for Anna Grace that morning.

Jeff,
You're right our next tourny, is at the River, maybe I can do both. Next time I'm at Bayou
Outdoors I will check them rods out. The fund raiser for Brads little girl Anna sure is a good
cause, I have'nt talked to Brad lately, have you heard how's she is doing? Since the wife and I
go to Haugton now, seem's like we stay out of touch, with what's going on at Eastwood.
Take Care
Mike

Here's the website for the fundraiser.  It's a great opportunity to give back to the Watsons for so much that they do for our community.  Pass the word to anyone that likes to run and to anyone that would like to help or donate.  I participated in their 2011 Compassion Dash that raised a large sum for another local family.  It's a great event.

For anyone that's up to it, I'll challenge all comers in the 50 and over category!
