Why so many keys?

Last night I was on my way to my place on Smith Lake to follow the FLW Elite pros most specifically Brent Ehler.   Doing my due diligence I locked all my stainless steel latches on my SabrefTD for my overnight stay.   Unfortunately, things changed and needed to come back for a customer today.   After putting my  boat in the garage last night I decided to get in my boat to do some tackle organization.  Unlocking my latches was  the usual until the "ONE" latch I need to open would not turn to unlock.  Yep, my front deck tackle storage box.   Well I got my BassCat satchel and retrieved all those many keys that I often wondered why so many?   Well I'm not sure if it is intended for this issue or not but acting like a locksmith on my second key it opened the latch with ease.     I'm gonna keep those keys handy and gonna keep them in my truck glove box going forward.  Hmmm.... I'm for sure not going to store them in my boat.   ~roflmao ~beer~

I'll be taking my boat into my dealer and have him evaluate that one locking latch.   ~read

That would have sucked if you were still on your trip and could not get to your tackle.  I keep spare keys to all my toys in the trucks ashtray...I don't smoke so it is a handy like storage compartment ~beer~

That woulda sucked if you had already got out on the water . The only latch that I have that is different is my new deck extension but that's where I keep alot of important gear ! Ill have to reconsider where I keep spare keys now ! Thanks Fly !!
Stop by the Garage and let me know if you have Maintenance issues that you need assistance with.

Now that's a first.  :)    I've been asked if I've ever removed my windshield and seats before.  ~roflmao Nothing like a good natured chuckle on a friday night with segrams and coke watching the World Baseball Classic.   Go USA!   ~beer~

I should take a pic of all those keys. I bet I have 15-20 keys, maybe more in my BassCat satchel.  Do you have that many?

GRR884

Yep..got as many keys as a lockmaster at a jail. lo

Hey Flyswatter, here is my theory.  When trying to find keys for the Perko latches for my 05 P Classic I found out they only make a handful of different locks.  All you have to do is look on the metal around the key slot and it will have a number stamped, find someone else with the same number on their locks and if they bought their boat new they should have plenty of extra keys.  Thankfully I found one of the family over on the BCB board that had the same locks as mine and he sent me a key.

Ok, so finally... my guess is each of the locks installed in your boat comes with a couple of keys when BCB orders them from the supplier so when you buy the boat you the keys that came with each of the locks even though they are all the same key.

Jason,

Why so many keys equal to why so many lures.  Gotta have bunch to find the one that will work.   ~shade ~roflmao

Fly get rid of the Perkos and get the Southco latches. Best $ I ever spent.

Bama96,  I've got a stainless steel version of the perkos and actually like them.  Maybe get that one latch replaced.  Gotta like all dem keys....  Kinda makes me feel important.  :) ~roflmao

Gotta get my SabreFTD down to Brech Marine.   My console and fender are in.   ~c~   Oh,  and show restratint...  He's got another 2013 PIV 200SHO boat show special and the colors are electric.  Cautiously, can't wait to see it.   :)
