Anybody got one? What do you think? Got a friend looking for a great 1st reel, and he doesnt like any of the Shimano reels due to they dont have black (except the Core, but too much $$). I figured the second best choice would be Lews. I personally think that IF I were to buy a Lews, thats the route I would go since it has Cent brakes. Give me some feedback on this reel if you have one please.

I haven't tried the BB1 yet, but I hear it's great. I do have many other Lew's reels and they are awesome. Wouldn't expect anything else from the BB1. Your friend could also check out the Revo SX Gen 3 (blk/red). Either would be great.

Very smooth reel, I have the 7:1 for burning spinnerbaits. All the Lew's models are high quality. I have 4 different speed spool models that range from $120-$180 and they all perform equally well. The cheaper models don't have as many features but the craftsmanship is solid.

I have two of them and they're great. I will be buying more.

Are you looking for right or left hand?
Enjoying retirement in the great Pacific Northwest.  I've turned into a fair weather angler.  Why do it today when I can do it tomorrow?

Another thought would be the Ardent Edge Elite.  These are made here in the USA and very nice reels.  A lot of guys around here have them.  They have  four models that are Black.  Worth checking out.

Thanks for the replies. He decided to wait a bit because he really wants a Shimano. I was trying to get him a good deal while BTD had their sale. He has his eyes on my Curado Es, but he cant have them. lol

I own a bb1, but have not used it, my water has 14" of ice on it! But my lews tournament pro is by far my best reel. I have 2 curado e7, 2 chronarch e7, 3 revos, jmss gold, and 3 pqs. I like them all but that tournament pro is something special.gl

You really like the BB1 better that a Chronarch? Im not gonna knock you, just want to know, how long have you been fishing, and do you service your own reels? Sorry if I seem too forward.

Pretty sure it says i liked the tournament pro the best and that i have not had a chance to use my bb1?

Sorry, my typo. But yeah, better than a Chronarch?

I have two of the Speed Spools (SS1) and love them. They feel more connected to the rod and solid then my 2 PQ's if that makes sense and less plastic feeling.. not sure why but they do. I'm sure the new BB1 is a sweet reel.

Are the BB1's specifically designed for cranking?

Yes and no, some models don't have anti reverse. These models are made for cranking. David Fritts did a article in BAM's fall issue about  it. It has something to do with pressure that builds up inside the reel.
