I had some free time this weekend and found some light wood in the shed so I sanded it into a opwater lure. Resembles a spook but it has a flat back. I painted it and sealed it and took it fishing in my neighbors pond the next day. The only bass I caught came off of that lure

Awesome job man. Carving is addictive to say the least. You can get basswood blanks from hobby lobby that work great for carving floating baits. Here are a couple of mine.

Wow, those are awesome! What do you make the lips out of? I was wanting to make a few diving lures

You can get an 8x10" sheet of lexan from lowes for like $4. Don't use plexiglass or it will break. You can also use the dividers from a takle box, but I can't speak for how well they hold up because I haven't thrown my brown rat much yet.

Here is the big one that I'm working on.

If you decide that you want to try your luck at molding a master of anything so that you can try making resin baits let me know. I have an Email from a good friend who is a custom swimbait builder that explains the whole process.
