Looking to sell our current boat to try and get a new bass boat. My dad wants a boat to be able to go on lake Michigan (maybe) but also wants a boat with a big front and rear deck that will be able to ride comfortably with 4 people 1 or 2 times a year. I guess what I'm asking is, what would u prefer for a decent used bass boat for minimal use on any great lakes.

Thanks for all the help
Alex

coldfront

there are some muskie versions, or were, in the crestliner series that might fit that bill.

I have been reading around, 1 towing the boat is no limitation, but would like to be able to tow it with my s10 (dad has a silverado), my dad wants a minimum 115hp engine, mostly fish inland barely if not ever fish lake Michigan, the occasional 4 people in the boat

I would go fiberglass much better ride and more durable also more stable when leaning over to land fish I have an aluminum bass boat with nice casting decks but doesn't handle lake Erie very well had to repair a hole from hitting the waves to hard my friend has a 20ft skeeter bass boat that is better on Erie but is awesome on inland lakes small boats just don't like big waves unless you pony up for a 621 ranger or similar all fish style fiberglass boat triton makes a nice one also just depends on your price range good luck and hope you find your dream boat I'm looking at getting a Comanche or skeeter myself never again will I get aluminum

I think it depends on the aluminum boat you buy, I have fished on Okeechobee on days some glass boys said was too rough. My Xpress h18ss handled it well and ran 3/4 at 40. I have not heard of any xpress boats coming apart because of rough water, however you would probably need the 20 or 21 ft model for 4 people.

Thanks u guys but 4 ppl will sometimes (not a lot) be on the boat and lake Michigan is rarely gonna be fished, my dad wants a deep v, I thought it would be best of both worlds to get a aluminum bass boat because I thought it would be stronger. I think we could fit 4 ppl comfortably on a 18 ft

bass boats are made for three people max and they are not deep vee's. you need to look at walleye ( multispecies) boats. glass will be better all around but they command big money. a 18-19' aluminum with a 115-150 hp should fit your needs.

I know you guys are thinking I am an idiot but, my dad is the idiot, he wants a deep v because he thinks he will fish on lake Michigan, but that's the thing we have a deep v and we have never been on lake michigan with this boat, anyway he wanted to sell it and I wanted to get a bass boat that will comfortably fit 2-3 fisherman maybe 4 passengers. But u think a aluminum bass boat would best?

I have a 19' Crestliner tin bassboat and fishes three with no problem. it has a huge front deck. the boat can hold four but fishing is going to be tight and the fourth person will have to sit on the floor while under way.

The 4th person wouldn't be able to sit in front of the passenger chair if it's a SC. That's why I want a bass boat, huge front and rear deck to easily fish 3 ppl. We looked at a SC deep v yesterday, it had a lot of room next to the counsel and such but no where near as much storage as some of the bass boats ive seen

3deez

nothing beats a bassboat for storage. my last two glass bassboats were dual consoles. great in bad weather for the passenger, but takes up a lot of room. I'll never own another dc. a tin won't give you the ride like glass in rough water but thier not as bad as some would have you believe. I have a new Jeep Grand Cherokee but last year I pulled it with a Ford Edge with no problems. there are pros and cons for each boat. I went from 35 years of glass bassboats to my first tin and I'm completely happy. then again, I don't plan on going 20 miles out on lake Mich.

Lol is doesn't make our decision easier, thank you for your help, what do u think of bass tracker, xpress for tin, and nitro, triton, etc. what would be our best bang for buck.

Here's mine, XPRESS H18SS I love it an it handles rough water well.Remember though, you get what you pay for.

I really like the xpress line of boats, especially since u can get the bigger motors on them. Unfortunately we're looking for used, we were down at bass pro shops yesterday and got to see some nitros for my dad to look at, I think he understands what I mean about a bass boat over a deep v

I would say a 19' glass bass boat is the best choice. You will have a decent rids and a good amount of storage. I grew up in north central mn and have seen a lot of aluminum boats and they don't do a good job with storage. Where in wi are you?

I'm in Milwaukee but do most of my fishing in rhinelander and up there. Best to look for a glass boat then, we looked at a bass tracker 190 tx I read on here that the storage and live well have leaking issues? It only had a 90 which really drove us away, but also looked at the new nitro z7,z8,z9 to compare to and by far soo much more storage on the bass boat and a ton wider than the 18'6" bass tracker, even the z6 looked wider

If you want a good boat for Lake Michigan you should check out Champions. They have the best rough water ride I have ever seen.

AlexWisconsin

We are looking at any brand of boats, we are not set on a specific make like most people are to rangers, we only do this on snowmobiles, but will take any advice as me and my pops are just noobs

Well update on the which boat we are getting, i dont know If anyone saw the new thread I posted which would be more efficient, anyway we are looking at a 2004 tracker tournament v18 with a mercury 115hp 4 stroke efi, or a 2002 tracker avalanche 18sc with a mercury 150hp efi 2 stroke. My question was which would be more efficient the 4-stroke tournament v18 running full bore (whic is right around 45mph) or the 2-stroke 150 avalanche running similar mph cruising maybe 3/4 throttle u think?

AlexWisconsin

Ok well didnt get the avalanche (kinda disappointed) but we got a 2007 tracker tournament v18 with a 2007 mercury 90hp 4-stroke efi with 24v 70# thrust TM. Not disappointed at this boat because the price we got it at and the shape its in. Now have a few questions.

Will a jackplate work well on the boat? Since we plan on keeping it we plan on going hydraulic.

Are there any tuners like dynojet power commanders that will also help performance? We like speed.

Any other upgrades let me know thanks guys heres a picture with cover

A Jack Plate will help most any boat.  Hydraulic is nice if you are looking for speed because you can go up in prop most times and go down in the JP to get out of the hole than go up for the best top end.  If you are big into the speed thing the best thing you can do is put the max HP motor on the boat.  Nothing you do to the 90 is going to be as good as running it with the max 150.

How old are you?

Im 18 if your wondering that if i bought the boat i didnt it is my dads boat but when i take it i fill it up in gas for him. We would have liked to max the hp but its out of our budget i guess u can say it is a brand new 4 stroke and super quiet and for all the money to switch everything wiring, steering, etc. We took it out today and we were doing 40 (faster than i thought it would do) and could talk without yelling

Hey thanks man!! We literally got it last week monday. We drove from milwaukee, wi to des moines, ia to pick it up. We got a great deal $9,000 and a older 12 gauge. We took it out already and it is smooth!! The motor came off of a triton glass boat so it has a 22p stainless prop on it, planing is kinda slow but it gets going after that
