Aluminum canoe.

Do any of you fish from aluminum canoes? I have a chance to pick one up real cheap but wasn't sure if it would be better than the fiberglass and plastic ones in terms of sound in the water. I think a dropped sinker on a aluminum hull verses a plastic/glass hull would be much greater.

Well if its cheap and increases your fishing area potential I would say get it!! You would be correct about it transmitting sound better but you can always get some of the boat carpeting and glue/stick it where you have your feet or tackle. It's like $10 for 12" x 12' roll. I've fished from a paddle boat, kayak, John boat, and now a Tracker- you will get used to "being quiet" lol!!

I would say jump on it if its cheap enough. Alum Jon boats make noise too. You should also consider stability when looking at canoes. I fish out of one often, but I have also built stabilizers so that I can stand in the canoe

Well i started young fishing outta a jon boat and don't think i can visibly see a difference between it and my fiberglass boat in the amount of fish caught. I really wanted a canoe for its better tracking ability and ease of smaller pond launching compared to the Jon. I may have to jump on it.

canoes and kayaks are hot right now so if it's cheap enough grab it you can always resell if you don't like it.

it will up your game it forces you to fish a spot more thoughly because you can not just go anywhere so the spots fish you fish longer and you end up unlocking the spots you fish. when i fish from my float tube and have unlocked the spots i fished 7 out of 10 times biggest fish over 10lbs from a spot the big boys blasted through all day. i like to catch the current on the weed edge and just float along the weeds and drag a jig,worm or tube as the current takes the boat along the edge good luck

I was hoping to catch some monster bass in the shallow ponds i cant get my boat into.  I found my dream canoe its the old town saranac 169 angler. Already built and ready for what I want to use it for. It retails for under 700 new. But I could pick up this aluminum Grumman 14 ft for a hundred. Ahh decisions decisions.

Sammy, I don't fish from a aluminum canoe, but do have a fiberglass Gheenoe. Since I have experience with it, a Gheenoe will now always be my choice over a canoe. However, when opportunity knocks.......! 

Love the Gheenoe for real shallow water creeks. I can get back into places the bigger boats can't even think about getting to. That's a good price if it's in good condition, and it doesn't hurt to have options. My other boat is a 16 ft jon, and I also have a float tube. I would like to have a bigger boat, primarily for Striper fishing, but the small craft have served me very well for bass fishing. 

Besides, as others have said, you might be able to get more for it than the price you're paying if it doesn't work out for you. You can't usually say that about a larger craft.
