I think I've only fished one tournament on BB Benton before, and I believe I weighed 1 small bass.  Wasn't real excited about this one, but I went a couple times before hand and was able to catch lots of 12 to 13 inchers.  Still never had caught a slot or over on this lake (though I know they are there).  With the reports I had heard, I figured 4 good unders an 1 over would probably win.

Wasn't sure my fish would still be there with the weather change.  We caught the tail end of the cool front coming thru right at daylight.  NE wind 20mph, cloudy, and light rain that quit right after take off.  Temp 70 degrees, high of 80 to 85 where it was 100 the day before.  I went straight to my fish, way up the creek in the north end, 2 ft deep with 5ft creek winding thru.  The shallow water had that slimy grass and old growth from last years draw down, but for some reason the shad were in it.  The bass were still there too.

Once I pin pointed them I anchored and began catching small ones on almost every cast for about 20 minutes.  I went through about 15 bass until I got 5 that were 13.5 inches.  Caught all these on 6 inch T- rig worm with light weight.  About 0830 I was ready to go look for an over.

All I knew to do was put on a spinnerbait, crankbait, and jig and start fishing.  Hit main lake points, brush, and boat houses.  Caught a few small ones and finally when the sun came about about 12:30 I found a 3.2lb'r with my jig under a small boat dock, next to 8ft water.

All together I caught the 1 over, 3 slots, and about 16 unders.  Weighed 8.56 lbs.

Thanks again Mike for running the tournaments for us!

Congrats Jeff! You are on fire! ~c~

The only way I could catch you if you don't fish the last two tournaments....HMMMMM I think you need to focus on duck season now! :-*
