i have an hds-5 (no structure scan) in my nitro at the dash but nothing at the bow. i wanted to get a hds-5 or 7 with structure scan but i was looking at the humminbird 798ci SI due to easier install and the one ducer compared to the two (and price) but wouldnt it be smarter to get another hds to link them together? im also not to sure how the Structure scan will work on the trolling motor. any thoughts would be appreciated

I have a 798 on my trolling motor now and it works just fine, you can see the wash when you first step on the pedal but then wow what a picture. You already have a low and i have used both, i prefer the bird. Do you save a lot of way points from the front? If you dont then i go with the 798 but that is my opinion. If you know a couple of guys with both on there boats go out and try them get the one you like best.

I would go with the HDS because you already have one so you can sync them together and you already know how to work it.

If you don't do it now you'll regret not having compatible units. It is so nice to be able to punch in a waypoint and it in both units. That goes for Lowrance or HB. If funds are an issue you'll have to look at it this way.

Two HB's (maybe not immediately but down the road) or one more Lowrance and the LSS box. The Lowrance versus HB is almost like a chevy versus ford, they have different options but the picture is the same. I'm able to tune my Lowrance better than others can tune their HB's but that goes both ways. ;)

I'm a Lowrance user and would recommend getting another Lowrance.
