I'm getting ready to purchase a HDS unit for the bow of my boat.  Initially I have been leaning toward  HDS7.  I was at Bass Pro tonight and looked at HDS5 and HDS7 side by side.   It looked like HDS7 box was noticeably bigger but the screen size difference didn't seem to jump out at me saying the HDS7 was significantly bigger.  Now I'm not sure if it's worth the extra coin.   Currently have a HB 788 and no real issues with it's footprint.   I can stretch the wallet to get the HDS7 if it's worth it.  I know size does matter.  Help me out here guys.

I never had the 5 but do like the size of the 7...i normally keep my 7 in a 3 way split with sonar/side scan/down scan....i could only imagine how that would look on the 5...i have read where some say that the 5 was to small for their liking and upgraded to the 7....

No doubt, if you can afford the price difference, get the HDS 7.  Larger screens are nothing but a positive, and I've never encountered anyone that regretted the purchase of a larger screen unit.

As you know I have the 5 and 7  , 5 in dash and 7 up front . I am now looking for a good deal on  an 8 or a 10 to RAM mount at the dash :)   I would definitely go bigger with lake insight if possible :) just my opinion

I have a 7 and a 10. I played with a guys 5 the other day and felt like it was a toy. No way I could go back.

The five is just too small, if you get one you will be mad at yourself for spending the money on it.  If you can afford the seven it is definately worth the extra.  And sorry to tell you this after you get a seven you gonna want an  eight.  haha

speaking as a 'getting older' guy, your eye sight will never be better than now...comes a day, you might like the larger screen...   :(

I already got old and I went from a 5" Side Imaging unit to a 10.4" Side Imaging unit. I can see stuff when I am at the bow with that unit.

I just put an hds 7 gen 2 with structure scan in my boat and i can see the 7 inch screen better than the 5. My buddy has the 5 and it seems like he has more glare and its amazing what a diffrence 2 inches makes. Eventually ill move it to the bow and replace it with an 8 or a 10,,,,,some good lottery numbers would hasten this project though cuz they are a bit pricey
