I am trying to put together a resume for several companies. There is a problem, however. Because I am in high school I am fish the 2007 Jr.Bassmaster series, and I don't have much tournament experience, and I have only fished a few here and there. I do have some skills in sales. I own a small business called BTR Custom Jigs. It has been a great learning proccess to research marketing and sales. I also have developed public speaking abilities that are geared towards sales.

The problem: I don't know the first thing about putting together a resume.

How should I tell future sponsors about how I can help them without making my lack of tournament experience stick out? How should I place and word the various atributes I do have, and most of all, how do I convince them that I can be an asset rather than a bad investment?

Any help would be muchly appreciated. Thanks again, Boone Powell

Bassonly, first think look at what you are going to fish next year and figure out how many folks you will be able to advertise your prospective sponsors too. Your past fishing conquests are only minor bits of info compared to what YOU CAN DO for your sponsors in the comming season.

Build a small bio describing your self
Lay out what tournaments you will fish
Mention any other events that you will attend (being a guest speaker is a great thing in my opinion)
Lay out how you plan to market your prospective sponsor

Those are a couple things to get started. Take a look at some of the resumes already on the site that others have posted  ;) Once you get it started we can all help you tweak it a little bit. And Honestly one of the best places to start is with the Fish For Free ebooks that you can get right here in the Ultimate Bass store

Thanks a bunch. About how long should I make it?

Try to stay within a single page. You don't want to bore a potential client. Get straight to the facts and lay it on the line, if they get bored or tired of reading they will put it down and forget it. You won't to capture them quickly so that they say "Hey I need to act on this"  ;)
