ive started to notice that there are small shad balls randomly in about 8-12 feet over creek channels.  Near grass of course - it is Gunt after all. Frog bite is very sporadic.  If you were to relate how far back -- think about your South Sauty spot with Rick, and go on the tip of that island before it gets deep again on the river side and the inside.  For your mind mapping.  Areas Like that

They're trying, but I'm afraid I'm just not any good at this any more.

read once where KVD suggested that 'fall patterns' start when water temps are 10°F down from summer highs...

62°F here this morning.  cooler at elevations.  'bout time to head to the highland lakes for the spotted bass spook bite...

favorite lure?  yozuri pencil popper (110 or 135) in chartreuse/mirror...

guessing if I were out this weekend, that's where I'd be and what I'd be doin'...

always figured it's like golf Dale.  if you're having fun, doesn't matter what the score is.

and is there a better time to be out on the lake than the fall?  know the fish are bigger, easier in the spring... but boy do I love the start of hunting season when the riffraff stay off the lake and chase squirrels and deer...

Yeah, I had to fly for that rally.

There are a few advantages to having four seasons. A few.

It's clearly not fall in south Florida, its storm season, and we are keeping our fingers crossed! ~rain  ~sweat  ~beer~

It's running a little late in northern Ohio.  The water temperature is down some, but not enough yet.  Lake Erie the bait is still out deep and hasn't moved shallow yet.  It shouldn't be long now,.

I vaguely recall following bait calls last fall.

D.W. Verts

I've recently seen water as cool as 75 degrees (midday), mostly we're still in the upper 70's/low 80's. That "false fall" thing happens every year. For me, TRUE fall means nights in the 40's for several days.

going out to check tomorrow, gonna put in at Mink or Roseberry creek which is north, but not super north.  Go check the mats up there and punch some grass....gots to be on.  Will check for schools too and report back.  May toss an A-Rig around too, a small one :)

water is 75, and I tend to agree with Dale on the night time temps being key.  We have had a few nights in the 50's.

did well today on a jig, one of the best fall baits there are IMO.  Tried a buzzbait early, nothing good, more misses.  Switched to jig -- boom.  7.4 lb.  plus 4x 3+.  This tells me the bluegill are active.

and, no FFS to catch these -- old school dock skipping

Das Piggie Ol' Bugeyes:  7.4 at a bit over 22.5"

another 3+ after ol bug eyes

No FFS! (Freakin' Flippin' Stik). Man son, you done good, especially not using an FFS!

whatever fall pattern we had is gone -- fake fall strikes again -- back in the high 80's

supposed to get back in the 70's by next week Thu?Fri.  Hopefully that is all

it was 75°F water temps at my local highland reservoir Saturday.

the spots were tryin' to school up.  the bait balls just haven't formed yet.

this coming week or two?  looks like things gonna cool down.

they were slashing at the pencil popper, but wouldn't commit.  got a few to go on the whopper plopper 'moving at high rate of speed'...  the real bite though was on a deep rapala shadow rap... that was fun.

D.W. Verts

Raining for two days now (YAY!). ALL day today, and it's 62 degrees. That will do something.

Here too, may try Smith Mountain next week. The closer lakes are all like septic tanks.
